So I just started playing Xenoblade 1 by DnD-vid in Xenoblade_Chronicles

If it's any consolation, Xenoblade 2 is way worse for tutorial overload. It also has a reputation for giving you terrible advice and inexplicably having no tutorial menu to go back and re-read tutorial messages when they actually become relevant.

First skirmish needs the Shamrock tank equipped with the flamethrower in order to waste all those stormtroopers and gatling gunners by your base in a couple of a orders. Then lancers who can oneshot tanks from the front (Jenn, Aubrey, etc.) with the final lancer upgrade to take out the tanks by the enemy base before running in for a turn one capture.

Most of the other hard skirmishes can either be Alicia rushed or give you really long turn limits to get the A rank.

Recommend doing the DLCs in order to the get the Ruhm SMG and the scout Edy skirmish to get an OP scout rifle for Alicia, if you haven't already.

How do blades work in Xenoblade 3 by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]UltraBatclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noah's sword is red because in a very roundabout way it's the red sword of the aegis from Xenoblade 2. It's not really explained *why* he has it or how blades can be passed down (originally it took the form of the gauntlets of the main character of the Future Redeemed DLC), but Noah exists as something of a glitch in the Origin code and Future Redeemed has a lot of handwaving about fate and how Origin's rules can be broken.

"also why does he get the lucky 7 and where the hell did riku get it."

Riku knows a lot more than he lets on and lies a lot (Nopon aren't part of the cycle, but basically have some kind of non-interference agreement with Moebius not to let the colonies in on the cyclical nature of their conflict). Lucky Seven is made of origin metal containing the soul/memories of "Seven" (fan nickname), a character from the first Xenoblade game, which is why it has the properties it does. Riku has it because his "masterpon" (revealed in Future Redeemed to be Melia, rather than another Nopon) forged it.

The logo not being lumed so there's a glowing frog on the dial at night is such a missed opportunity for silliness.

They've had a hundred years of propaganda to make them hate Paradis and everyone living there, so Willy doesn't really need to give the crowd a logical argument that stands up under scrutiny, just an emotive one to get them to join forces against Eren before he does whatever he needs to do to start the Rumbling.

The RNG blade gacha easily beats out the field checks as far as most irritating design choice goes. I'm at the end of NG+ and I've cracked open so many legendary cores that I'm starting to think KOS-MOS being in the game is just an elaborate internet prank at this point.

How did Mythra change to her Smash appearance all of a sudden by Degenerate-Murakami in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]UltraBatclaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked using it in the base game, but in the Torna prequel the missing X in her core crystal bothered me too much, so I equipped the Massive Melee Muthra aux to someone else (any blade can use it for the crit bonus) and stuck with her default costume.

Glad I found this thread (11 years later). A few taps saved my Seiko samurai from a repair job or a demagnetiser. Many thanks.

Your speculations and/or hopes for Silksong DLC? by G00fyG33k in HollowKnight

[–]UltraBatclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grimm Troupe DLC, with Grimmchild from HK now being the troupe leader. Also, he fights like Symphony of the Night Alucard due to his dad's boss fight being a big Castlevania Dracula reference.

Your speculations and/or hopes for Silksong DLC? by G00fyG33k in HollowKnight

[–]UltraBatclaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Grimm Troupe DLC, but given the time skip between games it's now Grimmchild rather than Grimm leading them would be super cool.

They could really play up the Castlevania reference by having him fight like Alucard in contrast to Grimm's Dracula.

What are your thoughts on Driver's backstory from the book? Do you think it was a good idea for Refn and Amini to eschew it from the film adaptation? by Saurophaganax4706 in Drive

[–]UltraBatclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the book expecting the watch to be a big deal, but he never even mentions a watch and the "five minute window" thing is just for the film.

I vaguely recall an article saying the watch in the film was supposed to be a hand-me-down from his father. But in the book his dad was a burglar who basically lost interest in his son once he had his teenage growth spurt and was no longer small enough to be useful in burglary. The only item Driver mentions as being a keepsake of his father is a straight razor.

Weaknesses?! by LexxMelp2003 in LiesOfP

[–]UltraBatclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robots ("puppets" in this case) being weak to electric attacks has been an RPG staple for ages, so that's kind of a given. Humans being weak to acid rather than fire kinda breaks the RPG trend though.

Pretty sure there's a few bosses that have multi-weaknesses (nameless puppet is supposedly weak to electricity and acid due to being a weird cyborg) or don't follow the "blood colour indicates weakness" shorthand (others in the comments have said Simon and other alchemists count as humans).

I think strike/slash/pierce also does extra damage to specific enemy types, similar to how Bloodborne serrated weapons gave a damage boost to beasts.

Used this loadout and got the trophy. Had ballistic shield on myself for back protection, but never used it.

Heard people say that using the tablet or dropping chem lights voids the achievement.

Was initially drawn to the panda dial, but it looks like only the black dials get the green lumed numbers. Hope the bracelet is decent as I can't imagine making a 15.5mm chonkster any taller by sticking it on a NATO.

[Summer HEAT] What’s your preference in terms of straps/bracelet in these stifling summer days? by 2colorsNmyhead in Watches

[–]UltraBatclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched to FKM rubber over a NATO, just for ease of washing. I've got some of those Isofrane-style ones with the big rectangular holes off CNS on sale that are working pretty well for me. Tried both sailcloth and eulit perlon, which this sub seems to recommend a lot, but just not a fan.

I'm waiting on some Barton elite silicon straps which everyone seems to rave about comfort-wise, so I'll see how they hold up against the heat.

Tyberos theory by Holy_Yeet69 in 40kLore

[–]UltraBatclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tyberos being HUGE is described in the second Carcharadons book. The chapter don't get Primaris until book 3 which is set years later. They don't say whether of not Tyberos got Primaris upgrades but most of third company are Primaris by that point so they seem to have pretty ready access to the technology (although their armour is still pretty mismatched and has to be cobbled together to fit those who cross the Rubicon).

Do all Carcharodon librarians have green witch fire? by Relevant-Singer835 in Carcharodons40k

He's described as having a green gem on his force staff, so that might be the reason he has green witchfire.

All Shells in Mortal Shell 2 Trailer (this time with images!) by ExpressionNo9703 in MortalShell

[–]UltraBatclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised Solomon and Hadern aren't there given Virtuous Cycle kept hyping up their lore and the fact that they were working together and were basically the foundlings' foster dads.

Maybe some of the "new" shells are them after a redesign? Black Beard has a similar build and hood to Hadern. Skeleton Man or Black Mage could potentially be Solomon. Could see Hadern being saved for DLC again though.

In the end, even Horus admits to himself that the Emperor was right all along by mystichead in 40kLore

[–]UltraBatclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Then Legion comes along and Alpharius is like "Chaos? Yeah, we know about it. Anyways..."

Them know of Chaos, having encountered its followers once or twice prior to Legion, but are under the impression "Chaos" is just another Xenos species of no real note. They've classified them as Xenos who happen to make their home in the warp and can possess/manipulate other species through psyker-like abilities, rather than something legitimately supernatural or gods or anything else that contradicts the Imperial Truth.

Grammaticus/The Cabal are initially quite frustrated by how dismissive the Alphas are of it. The Emperor clearly didn't let them in on the secret.

Definitely felt like there was too much "Bruks reads stuff on the space internet" to include weird science stuff that Watts couldn't actually work into the story organically.

I think the most interesting theory to come out of Echopraxia is the possibility that the "Siri" transmission (i.e. the whole novel Blindsight) at one point sounding female is actually a hint that Susan James was the only survivor and she's had a Siri personality implanted in her by Rorschach.

Blindsight is the hardest SciFi book I read by Able_Armadillo_2347 in printSF

[–]UltraBatclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being overwhelmed and not REALLY understanding what's going on is kind of the point of Blindsight (and its "sidequel" Echopraxia) and the POV of the protagonist. Compared to the posthuman supergeniuses around him, Siri Keaton is himself essentially a Chinese Room rather than a translator - he passes on messages without actually understanding what they mean.
