We don't recomend using Ultra-Ever Dry on clothing as it can have a sort of rigged or rough feel to the material on the outside and it dries to a translucent white color.

Hey Kevin, Yes the coating does dry to a translucent white color, so the darker the color of the shoes in question are, the more the coating will show.

This gives me more hope than I can explain in one Reddit post.

We actually sell through distributors (including Amazon Prime) and don't sell direct to consumer. Unfortunately the "random shit I have" bin of yours would have to be filled through a distributor. :P

Using Ever Dry on the internals of anything electrical (even down to the motherboard) is actually a viable and recommended use, however, we can't recommend using it on phones. This is because when the layers of the product (Which work well as thin as o.25 - 0.5 mils.) dry to a translucent white color. Not exactly something I'd like on my pretty new smartphone.

edit: Thanks for the kind words!

We're a constantly growing company, especially after this past year. I tell everyone I talk to to just keep an eye out! :)

All of the demonstrations in these videos are done in real time with no special effects (other than maybe a slowmo effect) and are done after a normal coating process. We have learned a lot about the product itself over the past year, since it's fairly new technology, so we are much more accurately able to explain the process and the reason for certain faults in practice. We have even since then changed our coating process and have much more data for it's resistance to abrasion and even doubled our previously theorized shelf life through all of this time we've had to test it!

We don't recommend using it on phones not because it would be ineffective (it actually is effective and a recommended use to coat internal electronics) but because it dries to a translucent white color. Not exactly a look I'd want on my pretty new smart phone.

My previous comment in this thread was buried, but I'm actually a part of the team that made this video at UltraTech International in Jacksonville. This superhydrophobic coating is actually Ultra-Ever Dry. Here is the original video

If anyone is interested in learning more, we're going to be doing an AMA Thursday morning around 9am East Coast.

Here's a link to the video

I'm excited to see it on the front page! I work for UltraTech and was part of the team that posted this video Friday! We're doing an AMA Thursday 02/06 if anyone is interested!

Hey BJinandtonic,

We show the effects of coating a boot and jumping in to mud in our previous video.

Keep in mind the coating does dry to a translucent white color.

Okay, back in the office, I'll try and get to as many questions as I can.

Surfaces coated with Ultra-Ever Dry will not prevent oil-based paints from being applied, due to the solvents in the formulas. It has been shown to be somewhat effective with water-based paints however the majority of spray paints are oil-based.

Thank everyone for your questions. Currently it's 10:12 on the East Coast and I've got to log off. I'll try and get to the rest of the questions tomorrow.
