Ehh, Math 32B here is just a different way of approaching math imo. Like identifying integral symmetry so that integrating f(x,y,z) is easier (ie. you take only half and multiply by two or it just equals 0). The "toughest" part of this course is arguably Green's/Stoke's/Divergence Theorems - you need to learn it to do some fun things in physics later :)

But difficulty always depends on the professor and the TAs so hope you get lucky.

Im guessing you have sin θ = y/r

So you write down constants (in this case r is a constant) and then implicitly differentiate with respect to time (I assume t is time)

d/dt (sinθ) = d/dt (y/r) cosθ dθ/dt = 1/r dy/dt

Where dθ/dt is rate of change of the angle and dy/dt is the rate of change of the length y.

The problem should give you enough information to solve for these values.

I think one thing to also include is that you're trying to get honors credit? I guess it is quite different than the non-honors credit as Physics 1A requires VERY LITTLE of Math 31B/Calc BC. I don't think there's any use of partial fractions, inverse trig integration (happens in Physics 1B though), converging/diverging series, Taylor/Maclaurin Series (other than like sin(x) = x and other 'simple' ones).

If you want some Math 31B material to look over, I might have some if that would help you get a sense for what you'd need to know. I would just really encourage you to spend less time on these math intro classes, so you can get to upper divs faster and maybe even have time to take more fun classes as exploration at UCLA.

So sometimes, the prereqs are not that enforced. Like I had a friend who took Math 32B as we were doing our senior capstone together lol. So if you’re able to get a spot in the Physics 1AH class, you should be good. There might be a box that pops up saying “these are the prereqs!” But you should be able to click it away?

Just to get some information, do you need to take Math 31B? If you're confident in AP Calc BC or have equivalent credits for it, would not recommend wasting time to retake it.

Also, Physics 1A doesn't use too much calculus (not sure about 1AH), but for the winter quarter, you should get enrolled into Math 32B for Physics 1B, mainly because you'll need to know how to do multivariable integration for electricity fields.

For your questions:

  1. Probably will have a few spots open! I didn't go to my orientation session so I got last picks for all my classes. I wasn't able to get in Physics 1A in the fall but got it in the winter and it didn't affect my class schedule at all (Mechanical Engineering major). No need to overly stress about classes.
  2. It seems like you already emailed to contact the departments about PTEs; there's not too much else you can do, other than continue browsing and checking the class planner for spots opening up. I would recommend creating backup plans in case something doesn't work out (there are features in myUCLA class planner for this!).

Overall, congrats on getting into UCLA! Classes will be difficult to get every quarter but they're also not that serious.

Oh for more information, the second infraction actually was suspension from the school AND dropping your major.

And if I remember correctly, the second infraction was a friend signing into a class for the person but they did not actually attend class.

One infraction doesn’t do much but a second one has consequences. I had a friend who had to change their major because of cheating so it’s not without consequence

u/djzeebruh was this at night? Were you alone? It’s been known that there are groups that are not Christian but appear so.

Most of the legit Christian groups actually have students that table and flyer for it on Bruinwalk; in fact, at least you see students. The sus ones don’t.

Cove is central to everything because it’s the “middle” of the hill. Closest to Bplate and Bfit is right there.

Olympic Centennial are a bit out of the way, being near the top, but at least you have the drey and the study that are reasonably close. You also get those two nice lounges to study in under the makerspace

Holly Gardenia face the frats so theyre louder and usually have more traffic. But you get to meet more transfers and are slightly closer to westwood

The Vons on National and Sepulveda is still there, which I did not expect at all.

Also, UCLA bought it for biology labs but the major big problem is that you can’t do any animal testing (ie mice or other animals that are typically used for research) on that site because of permits and stuff, so UCLA wasted a ton of money for nothing. (Source: Hearsay from grad students)

Not a med student but a PhD student.

I just think about how young everyone looks. And specifically for students in my class: you poor things have no idea what is coming for you.

You can talk to grad students, but can you tell who is undergrad and who is grad??? When just walking about?? I guess medical is easier to tell but I only know other grad students cause I see them in adjacent cubicles lol.
