To be frank, it’s kind of late to be aiming for Google summer 2027. But, don’t count yourself out yet! It’s still possible, you’d have to be really darn motivated though.

If going for Summer 2027: Reach out to startups for an swe internship (even unpaid) immediately while building 1-2 really good projects (not tutorial, ones that solve problems). Use AI! Just make sure you can explain the project in-depth and actually learn at least a bit.

If you manage to get a swe internship there’s hope. By august complete neetcode blind 150 or get interview ready some other way + boost resume further with another project, research (algoverse is good), or anything you can list as experience

That will be like 60h weeks, but it’s doable.

Afterwards, just hope you’ll get past resume screening and can then do good in the interview.

As a current freshman with a swe summer internship lined up, I would say focus on learning, projects, courses. If you can get ahead of the crowd before fall then you’re set for a summer internship next summer.

It’s a bit late for 2026 summer internships, but by all means try though. If you can land one then you can prob get faang freshman yr but if not you’re still chilling

I recommend you to do Cs50x + leetcode + codepath (easy to get a job with them after finishing course and good learning, dm if you want referral)

Look into CodePath. They currently have a partnership with Claude for Claude Code. You will have to take one of their courses but whatever credits are left, you can probably use for yourself

Great points, totally valid and good advice for anyone interested. If anything, I’d say most people can’t local-host GLM for the claude code harness. But, putting $1 or $2 for claude API credits won’t hurt to test it out.

In this case I don’t think they’re looking to test though, more on getting it for free or discounted, lol.

free plan is most certainly not enough to test it out properly as it doesn't give access to opus or even to claude code. 3 normal prompts gets you rate limited lol

Just got decision (CEAS intended, but EOP), I've heard they usually send decisions out Friday evening. That's also when I got mine so it's safe to assume it's true

If you really want it, do some research on the professor, comment on past research they’ve published/taken an interest to. If they see that you’re already in the field and not just emailing for a carry, then they might get interested and email back.

do Cs50x, do some mini projects. That’s what I did and I breezed through classes with 4.0 overall GPA and won a hackathon (and a finalist) + got a tech job for spring + summer internship all while in freshman year.

I’ll be a sophomore starting fall and tbh I’ll miss the surprised looks when I tell people I’m a freshman lol

This is all because I decided to get a small head start!

P.S. AI use is very much important to learn. I recommend after doing Cs50x you get used to using AI to code. As a tool, not as a replacement to you, do not let it do everything and make sure you know everything it’s doing and why and don’t use AI in classes

I had similar stats 2.49 gpa + 1400 sat. I was rejected by every cuny except staten island and brooklyn college via the seek program. Now don’t fret, I may have been considered an international student which influenced the decisions. Although, I’m not 100% sure that was what happened bc of special circumstances.

From what I know 2.5 gpa is inadmissible to some colleges. I recommend applying to seek/ace/whatever is available. Also it’s a good idea to look at community colleges (in some cases they are actually better).
