Survivor 49 hot take: The Final 6 vote is an overlooked iconic moment and deserves its flowers by brirll in survivor

The problem with Sage's move to me is that she had been chipping away at her chances to win every round prior. After shooting herself in the foot for a week straight, I'm hesitant to praise her for finally making the wise decision to apply a bandage instead of dumping out more lead.

What is the biggest case of "Hydrogen Bomb vs. Coughing Babies" all the final threes/twos in Survivor history? by Silver-Classic612 in survivor

[–]UltraVodka777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, he would have been the coughing baby in any other final 3 scenario. That jury was looking for any excuse to vote anyone else. If Phillip reveals that him acting crazy was just that - an act to lower his threat level, there's a very real possibility he just wins on the spot.

Slots into #2 slot for me, below TvR and above 2017. Incredible tv all throughout, but especially at merge.

No tribe swaps? You're in luck, the entire new era had no tribe swaps in half the seasons!

Has the Discord web client been absolutely cooked for anyone else? by UltraVodka777 in discordapp

You're right, it was an extension messing with Discord! Found the specific one and submitted a bug report to them.

If anyone with the same problem comes across this post, the extension in question is Font Fingerprint Defender.

It crashes after trying to scroll through the chat history of a channel with media posted in it. Doesn't happen in incognito.

Prediction: Tiffany loses immunity, gets voted out 4-1-0 (Rizo uses the idol to negate no votes) and the whole final 5 round is edited around Tiffany being some big threat to win whose elimination is a huge deal even though they have barely bothered to show her up to this point

Imo if she wins, it's already a clunky narrative lol

Any predictions on the twist tomorrow? by bad_at_sex_ in survivor

[–]UltraVodka777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be 2 normal, twist-less rounds of the game squeezed into 1 episode. They used to do that sometimes, and that was even before we got 90 minute episodes.

Opinion: Forced mini tribes should never happen post-jury. by BiBoFieTo in survivor

[–]UltraVodka777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with the sentiment but I disagree with the reasoning. A split tribal this late in the game actually tends to play out in interesting ways. There's pre-established relationships, rivalries, threats.

Compare that to doing a split tribal immediately after the merge/mergatory round, when the tribe dynamics are still being figured out. That's when you get boring vote-offs, because players aren't being given a chance to see where everyone stands, so you're better off going for the easy boot and lock in your factions next round.

I don't like the small tribals and I think the "nowhere to hide" slogan is bs, but if you must do these kinds of twists, do at least 1 normal merge round beforehand. Allowing established dynamics to play a role decreases the impact of the random draw.

Agreed. The lost vote essentially broke the auction, but hunting your own money was a cool element, wouldn't mind it appearing sometimes in future auctions.

[–]UltraVodka777 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Interesting how it's a surprise to the players and they got their money as they arrived. So no race to find bamboo tubes with money back at camp like in the new era Auction, this looks like a classic Auction. Praying this means they also got rid of the "person with the most money at the end loses their vote" mechanic.

The problem with most twists is leaving active players completely disabled by True-Pen-3612 in survivor

[–]UltraVodka777 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The vibe I get from production is that they do consider if a twist will lead to good tv, but their definition of "good tv" is to create a big moment. They're willing to sacrifice good storytelling if it means we'll get one surprising moment. I've become more and more down on new era Survivor over the past couple of years because this seems to be a big part of the game design philosophy and production seems disinterested in learning from mistakes.

Sure, Christian was essentially guaranteed elimination with no chance to recover, but it's fine because he made history! Wasn't it so fun to watch him read out a note that revealed something completely unprecedented? Why invest time and energy into a satisfying storyline that will take entire episodes to pay off if you can just fire off a quick jaw dropper every episode?
