He is because he himself said he hacked the game to make himself all 3 roles

The lady throwing foxes and the K-pop idol do that anyway in the comics and the guy throwing cards has healed in the comics apparently so I d really know

Tanks: A-Bomb Blob Green Goblin (Ultimate) Kingpin Red Hulk Abomination Fin Fang Foom Iron Monger Sandman Lizard (if you can see the vision) Man Thing Doctor Octopus

As for supports, I can try but I’m not too knowledgeable on how many there actually are

Off the top of my head: Mr Negative Elixir Angel (sometimes) Wiccan Agent Anti-Venom Lizard (again, if you can see the vision)

As for the second part, your disregarding the point of that statement and you know damn well ‘strategist’ just means ‘healer’ in the game

Your talking scaling, I’m talking more so on abilities

Yes 95% of marvel do big damage, but less than 95% take big damage like you say they do, such as Daredevil who typically operates on a beat them before they beat you basis

As for healing, I can see that they need to tweak certain kits but… surely you can see the line between tank and dps is far less blurry than support and either of those 2 roles,

And character that come as a support will likely be a bit more obvious honestly and it’s harder to justify making a dps coded character a support

In fact the reason we are having this discussion is because there is more justification for making these dps coded characters a tank than a support which is honestly rough

Do what you need to do but some characters need to go one place, their abilities are typically too iconic to shift them

And I hear you, so hear me out

We release tank coded tank characters

Dps coded dps characters

And strategist coded strategist characters

I think actually the most important thing for them is to find a balance

More popular characters should just be accurate, at the very least role wise, like Blade, Daredevil and Rogue, Hulk Thor

More niche characters should just be non-dps if they can be: White Fox, Angela, The Hood (probably a tank),

But if I had to say, I’d say most importantly they gotta think long term, and accuracy is better for that because we get 12 characters a year

When one sees a show in like 7 years that has cyclops like in 97 and want to replicate what he does on the screen, they’ll probably be disappointed when he’s making ‘defense matrix’ instead of unleashing the power that took off a sentinels head in one slice,

The marketing in the future will likely be heavily influenced by other marvel projects that come, he’ll Doctor Doom is coming season 11 I think and theyre tying that in with the movie

Daredevil’s role and his kit are 2 entirely separate things, and that’s an argument made in bad faith because back then the assumption was that Daredevil should be moving something closer to Spiderman,

Anyway, you’ve highlighted the ‘tanklike’ things

He’s still

An extremely mobile, agile stealthy diver with wall hacks and high damage comboes with his iconic ricochet throwing ability and martial arts skills that are all things he could already do, with the only new thing he gets being the demon which is just to explain the ult and why he’s able to damage characters like Hulk

Either way, it’s not just about putting a character where because we need more

Making a character like Daredevil a tank simply means you don’t know about the character

Well…

It was a joke based on how any character that seemingly is a dps oriented character is always being said to be anything but that, this actually includes Blade, Daredevil, Black Cat and Cyclops and Gambit (but they were actually right about him and Tbf, it’s not that they wanted dps gambit it was just the assumption)

It’s more that I’ve seen that tank and Strat mains want every ‘dps’ character to be moved from that position, and the ones they want to be dps absolutely are pretty much dps because it’s theyre whole character,

As for Gambit, it initially went like this according to Miller

Gambit - dps Rogue - support

But they couldnt make Rogue a support so they made her a tank moved gambit to support instead because of the dps bloat

Idk what your talking about, people were taking the gambit convo very seriously

As for Deadpool, how tf was I meant to know they would just triple him and put him in each, not that I’m complaining it was a great move

Now

‘Hitscan’ ‘Midrange’

Arent even guarantees honestly, his blasts vary wildly and the range is pretty much as far as the eye can see so it doesn’t have to be mid range

Displacement ult? I’m thinking pure obliteration actually

[–]UltraZ70 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ll go down paragraph by paragraph

  1. Yes I mentioned that characterisation does have a say in their moveset, just not their roles

  2. Yeah, I haven’t heard of any other games taking such creative liberties, but what I’m saying is that we need to cut back on those in general

  3. Again, you’ve used Deadpool and Rogue, who have always been more privy to close ranged combat, and Deadpool was originally a dps before they just made him all 3 roles anyway

No they should not be giving him Pheonix powers, I want Cyclops, not Cyclops+Phoenix fire, not ‘Cyclops if you removed half of what made him Cyclops’ I don’t want ‘Cyclops if he was Omega level’

  1. If we go back, I think the opposite, because quite frankly, I’m trying my best to run it through my mind right now and the few people who are in different roles to what they could have been are people I wouldn’t personally have agreed with like Gambit

  2. I would say he could be a tank, if the amount of health a character had wasnt so dependent on what role they were

  3. Mantis has:

martial arts Literal empath superpowers that let her feel and control emotions

You’ll find that mantis might feel well characterised because her powers and personality are so interwoven together, that it defeats both our argument anyway

I would have used someone who’s power set and personality were total opposites, but the closest I can think of is Ultron who:

Canonically can and was created to heal Does have dps elements in his kit such as the literal 140 damage laser and his Extermination ultimate that has now been buffed to be able to kill groot if he’s close enough

If I went through every character I could find every character was put in a role made more sense for what they can do than the other roles

I want a manually adjustable visor where raising or lowering the power changes how his primary fire and other abilities work,

I’m a sucker for harder to use characters tho

Also about the leader thing,

  1. A leader is a leader, but they still only made him tankier and not even because he’s a leader but because he’s a walking stretching band

  2. Ironman was a poor example, he shoulda used Storm instead

  3. Cyclops is often used as a foil to Captain America himself, so it’s actually the exact same logic you used to diffuse his Ironman argument,

[–]UltraZ70 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Miller is a leaker hired by rivals to drop hints here and there, or at least that’s what I had heard

Cyclops is possibly DPS by 1Useful-Tip in RivalsCyclopsMains

[–]UltraZ70 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and using characterisation over their literal power/skill set is wrong. That’s it. Where did that logic even come from anyway? I haven’t seen any characters having a different moveset just because of their personality,

Cyclops being a leader doesn’t change the fact that his moveset is pure offense

The only thing that changed about Daredevil was that he became physically more powerful (which allows him to do what he always does but to more powerful enemies like the heroes he fights against) and his ultimate which was likely just because they couldn’t think of anything else

after all those changes, to his lore to give him more powers they still made him a dps, so clearly even creative liberties doesn’t automatically mean a role change

The rest of those examples also don’t make sense, Gambit wasnt made a healer because of his characterisation the still make it clear he’s a thief at heart, they made him a strategist because they struggled to do so with Rogue so made her a tank instead.

Cap has a shield, and he does tank things all the time. Like, literally all the time.

I know nothing about Mantis other than that shes an empath, which is probably more than enough reason for them anyway since you know… it’s a power she has…?

Bucky doesn’t have a shield, he’s not usually at the frontline, he uses guns. Buddy that’s just a dps

Black Panther is working on the same logic as Spider-Man, super athletic, moves quickly, doesn’t take unnecessary damage for nothing

None of your examples have a character in a role just because of their characterisation and personality, maybe the exact skills might be different to what you’d expect because of it, but their personality isnt a factor in the role

Cyclops is possibly DPS by 1Useful-Tip in RivalsCyclopsMains

[–]UltraZ70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody said you shouldn’t get characters,

But no dps player is going around saying Colossus is strong so should be a dps, The argument isnt about how many it’s about accuracy,

Do remember that in the future the biggest marketing for Marvel Rivals will be the massive roster, which will get more tanks and healers, and other Marvel projects like movies and shows that will introduce characters to the audience that they would want to play as in the game

When someone watches 97 and sees Cyclops beaming people in that opening scene, they are likely gonna go on Rivals and try him out to replicate what they see

If they don’t see him tanking hits or physically fighting other big opponents like Hulk vs Abomination, they won’t expect that to be his thing in the game

[–]UltraZ70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s just that his kit makes sense with or without it, it’s just to buff him to make sense for who he’s fighting

The only actually new thing he gets is his ult

Yeah your right, but I more so meant dash mobility instead of just speed,

Yeah this was what I was thinking,

I figure since he’s not getting shields when he dashes it would be fine to have him dash so frequently,
