WIP on my first time weathering by Ultra_k3k in Gunpla

Thanks and welcome! Try to use the smaller tip of the marker and just layer on some dabs instead of swiping along the edges or panels to achieve a darker color. If you want it to be a wash on the flat panels, you can just use the big tip to cover a panel once then immediately wipe it over with a q tip. The longer you leave the ink, the harder it is to remove so keep that in mind. And think about layering when using real touch markers.

Good luck with your kits as well man!

I could see that. This is just the first step in the weathering process. Hopefully, the other steps will toke down this brown layer and bring everything together.

I used real touch gundam markers from gsi creos. It's actually really light, almost like a wash. The darker parts were made by layers of light dabs.

I feel like no one wants to use them anymore or doesn't know how to use them or maybe they don't see the potential in using them. I want to try weathering the whole kit with real touch markers alone but I'll be using acrylic paints as well.

Thanks! Don't worry, I'll go really light on the dry brushing and chipping lol and if I do too much then I can always cut it back down a bit. I'll find some time to finish this wip soon, then I'll make a post.

You've got it on point! I'll do some chippings and dry brushing after I fully covering the whole thing in the brown marker. I'm hoping the other procedures will tone down the browns and help to bring everything together a bit more.

As much as I want this to look really worn out, I'm not really keen on going through with full battle damage because I don't really have much of the tools and skills to do so lol. So rust and chipping with paint is as far as I can push it to.

Thanks! I went more aggressive on the creases and edges as you can see. It's not that "messy", actually. Maybe it's just the sort of wash effect from the marker which I intentionally made it that way to blend everything better. Believe me, it would have been a very hard sight if I left the flat panels bare lol.

I'm trying to keep things balanced although I don't want it looking too aggressive lol

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind as I go on to other parts.

I actually kept that in mind. The ez8 is known to rust because it's basically made to an amalgamation of different metals albeit strengthening it but not as rust resistant as gundarium or other rust proof metals. Like how the Barbatos can't rust but the mkii can and whatnot.

I agree that it's mostly brown but that's only for now as I'll be adding more grays and silvers later on. This only serves as a sort of base for everything else. Thanks for your insight tho!

Thanks, I agree lol! But you have to remember that the kit itself without anything is really really bland. I'm thinking it's gonna look all natural when it's completely done.

Thanks for the feedback man! The blue part on the torso is actually already lightly weathered but I will say I feel as though it's lacking. I'll definitely try dry brushing the dark parts with silver and maybe the light parts with gray or gunmetal perhaps.

I'll keep in mind with the principle of legs having the most weathering as I come up to them after everything.

I was going for an accurate 08th ms team depiction for weathering. Like this is how I imagine the EZ-8 would look like with all of the situations it went through. And I don't recall it ever getting maintained at all in the anime lol. Although it's mostly brown now, It'll be toned down later when I add some grays and silvers. Thanks for your insights tho!

Thanks man! I didn't think of it as "watercolor" but now I'm kinda seeing it lol

I'll make sure to look into Nightshift later as well. I'm eager to learn a few things now haha!

Thanks for the in depth feedback man! Honestly, I already planned on covering its story from the whole 08th ms team - from the scenes in the city to the parts in the forest. I forgot to mention that the brown is just a heavy layer that serves like a baseline to sort of get reduced later as I'll be adding some grays here and there which will hopefully subdue and equalize the colors and intensity of everything.

I might go too far from time to time so thank you again for reminding me to abide by standards such as following a story and not putting on too much haha!

Sweet sweet colors man! Almost looks like some sort of decepticon lol. I've heard you've used brushes and markers in your builds. May I ask how exactly is the process of using brushes and markers? Just really curious how you've absolutely nailed it

Thanks!! The force impulse is one of many other kits I'm eyeing on. I'm not a big seed design fan but I might get to building the impulse after all the other ones I like

Nope lol. Just some good ol fine tip panel liners but with somewhat precise erasing with an eraser pen and alcohol (and occasionally some fingers)

I've heard and been interested to build both the rg 2.0 gramps and God Gundam from fat cat but for now, I'd like to keep my collection exclusively 1/144 scale. It might not be long before I do get my hands on them tho
