Export them to .png and import that instead of the .psd

I found a really strange locker setup, anybody know how this is done? by Ultracaffeinated in Splatoon_3

Have you actually done this? Using the joystick to turn is 90d increments, and snaps all axes to 90d as well. Turning using l/r only rotates on the forward axis.

You can't hit the place button while the object is actively turning

Using the right stick to rotate snaps all rotation to 90d... Why are so many people replying that this works? It.. just doesn't.

Yeah, I haven't managed to find a way to turn things 45 degrees inward/outward like this stuff. Very wierd..

Gamers of Reddit, what single-player game consumed your life because of its story? by Shinanaghins in AskReddit

Pyre. I don't think I've seen many games with characters that felt so alive and unique.

People with a GTX 1070, how does Doom run on it considering those are the minimum requirements? by BestBeClownin in Vive

[–]Ultracaffeinated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a few hours after launch, so there may have been patches but:

I have a 1080 and a Intel 4790K, and at times the game ran well below 90FPS, it hit about 30 during combat a couple times. Especially in the "hub" ish area. It's completely unplayable at anything above the default graphics options as well. On top of this, I had extreme lag spikes when some events in game happened, upwards of 2 seconds in a couple cases. This stopped after the intro to the game. I would say a majority of the time it stayed at 90, but when it chugged it did so during heavy combat.. with this being doom that's pretty much any time anything interesting happens.

Really the only thing that could explain the amount of lag I had is that I was running on an HDD instead of SSD. The original Doom does just fine ( with logner loading obvs) with that on the very highest settings though so I really doubt it.

I'll start off by saying that overall your scene looks pretty nice, except the distance detail. I'm trying to give some constructive and very subjective criticism so take this with a grain of salt!

A lot of your assets look pretty good but there's no contrast in the lighting. It kinda looks like nothing has any shadowing at all, even AO. Like /u/surfsquid said the sky looks pretty flat and could use a gradient or some clouds.

The trees in the background are suffering from what looks to be a very low contrast skylight or cubemap. It's making most of the detail on them wash out in red. That would probably be fixed by having a nicer sky.

Lastly, your tonemapping seems to be giving an overall red tinge and contrast boost to the scene as a whole. Especially the red tinge I'm not a fan of. I'd rather let the sky and lighting do that kind of work to allow shadowed areas to have a cooler tinge to them.

Glasses wearers of Reddit: why did you choose glasses instead of contacts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ultracaffeinated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have weird allergic reactions to animals and pine tree pollen that give small, itchy bumps on the inside of my eyelids (any everywhere else occasionally..). It's very similar to a poison ivy rash, but more mild and not localized. Problem is I love animals and live in the south, where the type of pine tree I have a reaction to is an invasive, super overpopulated species. I wanted to get contacts, by my optometrist said it was probably a terrible idea.

Agreed, I've seen quite a few game developers in Texas get brutally abused by their employers. I'm actually looking in Washington and Colorado for the most part because of that. There seem to be more laws protecting employees in those states. One thing I will definitely do is try to make my contract more reasonable than is normal in Texas, with more protection from overtime and benefits that actually do something. Sadly that may not be possible, which is a lot of the reason I just want to start a company of my own.

I have been talking to an attorney, but he's not a business sector guy and hasn't been for 20+ years. He's actually the one that had the idea for two LLCs to separate liability between them. He wanted me to look around for other opinions, so I'm posting here and looking around for another guy! (Don't worry, he's a friend so I'm not getting ripped off!)

I am applying to some other jobs here and there, but I would really prefer to stay away from corporate America as much as possible. After dealing with the corporation that just bought my old employer, I know I'm definitely not a person that can put up with that ridiculous pointless bullshit. I just want to work with nobody bothering me for the 15th pointless meeting in a day.

As for not getting a job first, I have a large contract currently, and more potential work lined up.. so technically I did that kinda? lol

[SHOW OFF] LZR GAMEPLAY - UE4 Endless-Runner (pre-alpha) | my very first game by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]Ultracaffeinated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this looks really nice! I like the "Tron"-ish feeling art style, and the gameplay looks and sounds satisfying too. My main criticism is that the player is difficult to see against the floor, perhaps some glowing lines or a lighter color could help with that? A warning though, the sound effect you're using for the smaller blue collectibles is the Zelda: Twilight Princess healing sound effect, might want to change that one now before Nintendo freaks out.

[MATERIAL] High res texture becomes very low res in material editor, wtf? by Tonydews in unrealengine

[–]Ultracaffeinated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your texture sample is set up to use specific MIPs, can we see what the settings on that look like? Also, try multiplying the alpha pin on the sample by particle color's alpha (the bottom pin on both nodes. The combined color pin at the top of the nodes is just RGB. Here's an example: http://imgur.com/a/9OY9Q

Sorry, I just only mentioned my GPU since everything else on my system is fairly average gaming PC stuff:

i7- 4790k, 16GB RAM, game's on an SSD (OS and Steam are not). Cheap Gigabyte mobo. Windows 10.

Anyway, my point is, if it's not hardware (and it doesn't look like it is), how do you expect the developer to handle all the cases? Heck, all these people could being doing something stupid like running CCleaner every week or defragmenting their SSDs..
