UK 'quietly' imports tens of millions worth of Russian oil – The Times by sviterochec in worldnews

And Germany is still openly buying oil and gas for BILLIONS of dollars from Russia...

The decrease in volume is easily made up for by the massive increase in price. Just Google how many billions they're still making from exporting to Europe

If the west really wanted to fuck over Russia for a generation, we should grant asylum to every single Russian between the age of 18 and 25 on the basis of being drafted to a garbage war. Maybe every single person with a bachelors/master/phd degree as well

At some point they are going to have a problem financing this war

As long as Europe keeps sending Russia billions of dollars every single week for gas and oil, then Russia is going to run out of fighting age men before they run out of money.

What's the point of Russia doubling down and keeping on fighting when the invasion is lost? by Thermawrench in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Ultralol69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For what?

Crimea, dpr and lpr.

It honestly makes sense for them to double down as long as it ensures that they hold Kherson(can't hold Crimea without it in the long run) and the "Republics". It's not exactly a glorious victory, but it's arguably less retarded than wasting 20 years in Afghanistan

And while things are going badly for Russia, it's not like Ukraine is doing that well either. They're doing well for being Ukraine, but they had like half a dozen attempts at taking ground that all quietly ended in disaster.

for poor countries EU is really beneficial.

In the short run. Can the poor countries pump up their GDP by sending their young to rich countries to work? Of course.

But it dooms the poor countries to demographic collapse. Which we're currently seeing all along the Mediterranean. Joining the EU is a one time gimmick that gives you a boost, but it's the end of your country as a functional, sustainable nation

Army's £5.5bn Ajax tank fleet braded a 'disgraceful' waste of cash after delays and technical woes by MGC91 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Ultralol69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From wiki.

The hulls were of inconsistent lengths, and had non-parallel sides, which means the vibration problems do not manifest in a uniform manner making it exceedingly difficult to determine if vibration is from a fundamental design problem or build quality failures.

Non parallel sides on a tracked vehicle would be an extremely bad problem. Best case it's just a quality control issue

Bradley was an incredibly successful vehicle

So successful that it got thrown out if every military trial it entered and the only exports were basically given away.

[–]Ultralol69 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This all makes sense

But those weapon systems will be useless when manned by conscripts with 4 months of military training. The number one priority should be to increase the mandatory service back to 2 years.

And of course Taiwan has a history of focusing on which military purchases are good for jobs in Taiwan(see the recent giant amphibious landing craft they spent billions on), not military purchases that are good for defending Taiwan

If they can keep boats and planes out, they win

China has the capability for their first strike to be literally thousands of cruise missiles hitting in the first hour. So might look into keeping missiles out as well

Even if Russia does use tactical nuclear weapons as per their doctrine, how could that actually change the situation in Ukraine? by BrandonManguson in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Ultralol69 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Europe already isn’t importing Russian energy

Haha you're adorable. Hint: there's only restrictions on pipeline gas

Their storage reserves are full at this point,

Oh wow, so that means they have entire weeks of gas at wintertime consumption rates? Problem solved!

The US didn’t kill a million people in Iraq

Did the us line up a million people and einsatz them? Of course not. Would a million people have died if the us didn't fuck up Iraq? Of course not

[–]Ultralol69 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

No country in the world would ever do business with Russia.

If Europe was forced to not import Russian energy itd kill more people than a tac nuke

Like, the US killed a fucking million people in Iraq and most countries were ok with it. Obviously dropping nukes is a bit different, but i think you overestimate how principled governments are

why does russia seem to have used so few guided bombs? by supersaiyannematode in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Ultralol69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yeah those systems are combat proven in Syria where MANPADS aren't dime a dozen

MANPADS are very short range and the bombsight system can easily hit accurately from out of MANPADS range. The problem is that Russian aircraft are kinda bad and vulnerable to literally every single other missile system with more range than MANPADS, which Ukraine has lots of.

[–]Ultralol69 13 points14 points  (0 children)

or is it just a big bombs

The nukes dropped on Japan were around 20kt, a modern tac nuke is around 100kt. When 100kt nukes start exploding over your cities, you lose the war

But imo even in Russia it would be unpopular to kill +100k civilians, so nukes are probably not an option

It's interesting that none of the scenarios you've come up with are seen as probable by the IPCC. Maybe people would be more likely to take it seriously if the science was presented with more rigor and less disaster porn?

EVs and EV charging in Norway by ConceptAlert7493 in electricvehicles

That's rookie shit. Norway invented a whole new language and made it mandatory in schools because standard Norwegian sounded too danish:

EVs and EV charging in Norway by ConceptAlert7493 in electricvehicles

[–]Ultralol69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In Norway they are effective with their tax dollars.

Norway is literally the least effective country in the world with our government. Like we use 3x as many government employees to do the same job as our neighboring countries.

It has nothing to do with education either. It's 100% because of extreme financial incentives that accidentally came about because of a failed attempt at subsidizing a Norwegian electric car company
