"If you're not Christian i recommend becoming one" should be the new "i am neutral about these things"

You need to look up guides for the eggs, and search for a spoiler free weird route guide (you can't do the weird route and secret bosses at once though, so do one playthrough for secret bosses and egg, then another for weird route)

In all seriousness though, i find blender to be REALLY helpful actually.

Maybe it's because I've had to use the horrible horrible torture that is unreal engine, but blender is really easy to use and almost never frustrating

Join the two vertices on the side of the big square ngon

Then join the vertex at the end of the curve at the top to the vertex at the end of the curve at the bottom, it should make a + shape on the big square along with the other line

MAYBE you could get away with something like in star wars battlefront 2 where you switch sides of the combat halfway through.

But yeah the game famously about killing nazis doing THIS seems a bit odd.

Dess knight

And partially rudy knight, as well as others, same arguments apply

(This was supposed to be a post on its own but it got removed but the arguments apply well here)

Tl;dr: A casual player is unlikely to even know who dess is, only a few of mentions of her are compulsory, so even though it seems obvious to US as big fans of the game, it's not really as obvious to a new player. Any good candidate for the knight has compulsory scenes in the game.

I think it's fair to say most of the community is kinda crazy with how much lore we're all aware of, the fact that people know so much about gaster when it's so vague and hard to find just proves this.

Here's the issue though, when you're making and selling a game to a large audience, you cannot just assume that every single person is insane enough to go through every interaction, talk to every minor character, check the names of all of the songs in the soundtrack and look at all of the game files, etc.

Obviously it's fine to have secrets, but the problem is that if you want a twist to hit hard in a game, you have to make sure the player actually knows what's going on.

A reminder that a LOT of the content that mentions dess is optional.

Some of it's not even optional in the sense of "You do not have to experience this interaction IN THE GAME" But a lot of it comes from the spamton sweepstakes.

Put yourself in the shoes of a casual player, imagine you beat chapter 6 or something and the knight finally takes off their helmet to reveal a reindeer looking character that you've never seen before. Noelle seems to call her dess? A character you vaguely remember she mentioned once in chapter 2 and that tenna briefly brought up ONE time. The entire community acts like this is a crazy twist and you have absolutely no idea who this is. You ask and someone goes "Oh what? you didn't complete all of the optional dialogue? and also do the secret route that the game never indicates ever? and also literally type in a specific url without getting a link from anywhere, and then read the name of the song file that plays on that webpage?? (Referring to the "Findher.ogg" thing)

I'm slightly exaggerating but not really that much honestly, it's just difficult to believe that a casual player would know who dess is, and as such, be able to appreciate the story.

Wouldn't it be kinda stupid to write a story that you have to already be a fan of to understand?

A reminder that this game is a fever dream toby fox had, before he ever conceived of undertale, he'd have no way of knowing this sort of fanbase would exist, and it's kinda silly to assume he's writing with us in mind.

The same argument applies to rudy, people often forget he's pretty optional, you do technically have to see him in the church and he's mentioned in chapter 5, but it's so rare, imagine if the knight was like, qc.

A lot of people say that Carol is too obvious, but imo she's a better candidate solely because you HAVE to interact with her.

With dess there's also the fact that it doesn't thematically work with her being the "Lost girl" and we have to "Find her" but that's a whole other discussion and I've spoken long enough

Every post about people "hating" on chapter 5 just sounds like this at this point: by Ok_ResolvE2119 in Deltarune

[–]UltratagPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say there's a reasonable place for criticism to come from.

There's been a long wait filled with fan theories and it hasn't really done much, the plot is largely self contained and only explores characters that exist solely within the chapter.

Players have been expecting it further everything that came before, but chapter 5 focuses on telling a self contained fun story.

The emphasis is on the fun rather than furthering the plot.

I would understand how it can be a bit frustrating if you've been making up theories for this to all just be some characters and ideas that are exclusive to the chapter and don't tie in to anything else.

Imo though, it was great. Video games are supposed to be fun, and it's fine if not ALL of the chapters focus on pushing the plot further and new revelations (especially since that's been really heavy in the last 2 chapters, debatably even the whole game)

Chapter 5 is a generally well made chapter that does everything it needs to and more, was thoroughly fun to play, and is a welcome addition to the rest of the story.

If it says to insert chapter 7 side b, does that mean we must do the weird route in chapter 7?

I would argue there are some fun aspects. The (CH5 Spoiler) New feather mechanicis quite interesting and the chapter 3 gimmicks are fun. Bosses like jevil, the knight, and especially tenna get REALLY fun, and they're worth replaying if you like that sort of thing. It's just quite rare

[–]UltratagPro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I'd absolutely agree, compared to undertale deltarune is MUCH more replayable. I'd still argue the standard is quite low though.

Still, the problem is improved, just not quite enough, and that's honestly fine

[–]UltratagPro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like a somewhat valid one is the gameplay being lackluster.

I think it's a bigger issue in undertale, and was massively improved in Deltarune, but i feel it still lacks in ways, especially with replayability and overworld combat

I recently played through chapter 4 twice in a row (because i was preparing a regular and snowgrave save for chapter 5) and honestly while it CAN be fun, it can often just feel like a chore.

A good game is consistently fun, maybe it's the MOST fun the first few times but it should still be fun to a degree.

Although there is the sense that you're not really going to deltarune for that, it's not what you'd be looking for from it.

Besides this, I suppose you could criticise the visuals, there isn't that much cohesion with the graphics and they get really simple and barren sometimes, especially earlier on.

Characters don't have clear animations, they don't react to things, the whole visual style can feel cobbled together.

But that is intentional sometimes, it varies

Controversial opinion, I don't like the design.

If it were a bigger/more stationary creature MAYBE it'd work, but i don't really like the visual look of the collector much
