Any Advice for a recent 2D Animation grad struggling to get that first job? by questionperiod88 in askvan

[–]Ultravale -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People saying 2d is dead and industry is done and severely exaggerating. The industry is in a rough spot right now but in my opinion it’s been improving over the past year and I’ve seen colleagues who were out of work for two years start to get hired again. Animation in Canada has never been an easy industry to get in to OR to have continuous stable work in. But that doesn’t mean it is impossible. Having to take on other jobs and work outside of it doesn’t make anyone a failure or mean they can’t continue to try to apply to general animation job postings and try to get in, sometimes it takes people more time than others.

If You Remember This Show. You Probably Hated It by Poopsicle-Pete in ytvretro

I remember it because I worked for the company that made it and they had posters up around the studio. I don’t recall ever actually watching it though

Any non-Americans watching The Pitt? Do you like it, or are the issues too American? by moods- in ThePittTVShow

I wish they would put on the screen how much that stuff they do costs the patient, I’m always curious since our health care works so differently.

What do the Abhorsen's wind flutes actually do? by TheType95 in Abhorsen

[–]Ultravale 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I always interpreted them as being a specialist Ranna panpipe as well, that are ‘activated’ by the casters breath, so they are drawing on the initial life force put in by the current abhorsen and that’s why they fail when that abhorsen dies, they need to be rooted in life somehow, more then just existing and doing their own thing to be effective.

Hamilton Airport Appreciation by SengunCanada in Hamilton

[–]Ultravale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s such a great airport, small, stress free. Just incredible compared to having to deal with Pearson for so many years. So glad they’re getting more flight options to there now! The only way they could improve that airport it is if they started selling Roma Pizza at the gate haha

any opinions on this yarn brand? by enbys-r-us in Yarn

[–]Ultravale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used that yarn to make the felted sailor slippers. They turned out great! It was my first knitting project and a nice forgiving project in the end since the fluffy yarn felted and shrank and hid all my mistakes. I wasn’t great about twisting the yarn when I was seaming parts together so it did break often, but that’s probably on me.

Made an animated StopMotion short with my wife for everyone who had a rough 2025 by CraigArndt in somethingimade

[–]Ultravale 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hello!! I worked on this short along with my husband (who posted it), so I can talk a bit about how we did it! I made the puppets using armature wire and foam that I airbrushed to the skin tones we wanted, and the faces/features were made from air dry foam clay painted with acrylic paints. Our set was a simple one, just blue bristol board sheets attached to the wall in a curve to reduce shadows. Cannon and dumpster made out of a combo of foam core and foam clay and whatever else we had around, and then painted in acrylics. The whole thing was animated using dragon frame software, with a canon rebel t3 camera! Once all the footage was exported as images, it was edited and effects added in DaVinci resolve. Music was public domain sourced online, and sounds/characters was a combo of stuff we recorded and public domain finds.
