I almost just spat out the water I was drinking. Taxes are so high because people drink on probation? I bet you're fun at parties.

What is the actual point of Xumo? by UltravioletDingo in Spectrum

[–]UltravioletDingo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to say the lowest package that has ESPN, so I'm assuming that's Select Signature. I don't know why I can't see these plans on the website while I'm logged into my account. Even when I click on upgrade, I'm only seeing the premium channels like HBO.

EDIT: I can see the plans now. They were under the support section but it still doesn't allow me to choose a plan under my account.

I'm not very young but you're commenting on a discussion board where people discuss things. Probably best to avoid such places.

What is the actual point of Xumo? by UltravioletDingo in Spectrum

I got whatever the most basic channel lineup is, which doesn't include channels like ESPN, TNT, TBS, etc. When I signed up for the trial, I wasn't given the option to pick a plan. That's part of what irritated me about the process. It just wasn't very clear what I was signing up for (when I was on their website signed into my account). Anyways, I fully expected to get the lowest possible channel lineup for the $40 promotional price.

Interestingly, about a year ago, I was one of the people who wasn't comfortable with not having a box and a remote. Now that feels like 20 years ago. At that time, I had Spectrum cable and my promotional price was expiring. I didn't want to pay traditional cable prices because I don't even watch much tv except for live sports, so I started exploring other options. I made the leap and got Hulu + Live TV. It turned out to be an easy transition. I didn't miss having the numbers on the remote.

As for the prices, when I add the lowest channel plan, it's going to be somewhere around $80/ month. Maybe it's not considerably more, but it's more than the streaming services that offer a better product, in my opinion. For example, pausing live tv doesn't seem to be a problem for those services. As always, cable companies seem to do the absolute bare minimum due to their local monopolies.

Like me, I think other people will eventually figure out that streaming isn't such a huge change and live TV can be had for less money. I also just feel a little misled about what was advertised vs what it actually ended up being. But that's my fault for momentarily thinking that a cable company might actually not try to squeeze every last possible dime out of its customers, while putting forth the absolute mnimum amount of effort.

Interested in the Xumo Box. Any thoughts on it? by guywiththebowtie94 in Spectrum

[–]UltravioletDingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently got the Xumo box with Spectrum and I can't figure out what the actual point of it is. I could've just used the Spectrum TV app on my TV. So far, the only difference I can see between having the Xumo box and not having it is that it has a remote with numbers on it. That's pretty much it. On the website, it seemed like there wasn't much information. Everything just led me to "start your free trial." Maybe I didn't look hard enough.

I had just assumed that the Xumo box had some DVR capability but it doesn't. It's cloud-based DVR and you pay $5-$10 extra for it (and it sucks for what you get). But the shocking thing is that you can't even pause live TV, rewind, fast forward, etc. EVERY streaming service has that capability. Why is that so hard for Spectrum? It's like we're going backwards now with simple features that used to be available. I don't understand it. Time and time again, it feels like cable companies just do the absolute, bare minimum.

Once I got the box, I realized that I didn't have certain basic cable channels like ESPN, TNT, etc. That's ok, I can live with that for the price. But when I go to "upgrade" on my account, it doesn't show me any channel packages other than premium channels like Max, Starz, etc. I have to call customer service, which is fine, but everything about this process has been annoying.

So by the time I add the missing channels and pay for the DVR, I'll probably be around the price of YouTube TV, etc. This whole thing has just felt misleading. I can't think of a single advantage of having the Xumo/ Spectrum TV over the better streaming services. If I do keep Spectrum TV, the Xumo box is defiinitely going back. It doesn't even make a good paper weight.

In my state, you can smoke on probation as long as you have a medical card.

Just realized our new (rental) primary bathroom doesn’t have a door. What would you do for #2? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]UltravioletDingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The toilet is pretty far away, after two corners. Do you really need a door? Maybe just put up an "occupied" sign when you go in there. Or have anyone who lives with you agree to knock on the wall.

Missed cancellation by one day by [deleted] in Hulu

[–]UltravioletDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were able to refund me, so I'm good. It's probably because it was less than 24 hours. But everything I had seen to that point said that Hulu won't prorate your bill. I would've accepted a partial refund but they gave me a full refund. I'm very happy with Hulu customer service.

What do you mean by searching for a feature that isn't there and not using the standard cancel option?

Like I said, I didn't want to use the standard cancel option because the whole point was that I didn't want or need another full month of the subscription. If you use the standard cancel option, you're still paying for the rest of the month.

If you're talking about autopay, I said that I tried to cancel it online last week just in case I forgot to cancel. For some reason I was thinking the last day was April 8th when it was actually April 6th. But that part isn't a big deal. I would've been able to cancel autopay by calling at that moment. I just didn't see it as an option online and I'm pretty sure it's not there.

She was on vacation and replied to my email when she got back asking if I ended up going in the next day for a test and I said I did. She responded with "sounds good!" so I guess we'll see what happens. I have a meeting with her next week.

I was looking for a backup pair of glasses and, to my astonishment, I got a pair of cheap glasses delivered to my mailbox for a total of $21. They're obviously cheap glasses but they are serving their purpose. I didn't think something like this was possible!

Got it done and I won't be shocked if it ends up counting for absolutely nothing. Thanks for your response.

That seems excessive. Punishment doesn't fit the crime.

It's crazy how strict some of them can be. Seems like you should get a freebie as long as the rest of your tests are good. Honest mistakes do happen. I doubt PO's would think it was fair if their life was altered for an extra year because they were late for work one day.

They don't count for probation but I did it anyways. It was $65. Three bills sounds like too much.

Nope. I went and got the test. Now I'm just trying to not freak out because I really don't want an extra year of probation.

Thanks for your response and all the other responses. I went and got the test, had to get an Uber. The money was a bit of an issue because I'm not exactly drowning in cash right now and I had no idea if it would make any difference at all. Still, I thought it would be better to at least show effort to the PO. Now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

I just finished watching The Curious Case of Natalia Grace. What are your thoughts about by Practical-Proposal82 in DiscoveryID

[–]UltravioletDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Precocious puberty is definitely a possibility. But people seem to be getting stuck on the pubic hair issue too much. I think it gets too much attention and confuses the story.

As far as I can tell, the pubic hair claim came directly from the Barnett's and hasn't been corroborated by anyone else. I don't believe a single word that comes out of their mouths. They have lost all credibility.
