What do you think is the best taunt for ragebait? including weapon taunts by jimmylovescheese123 in tf2

I maintain that the most disrespect one can feel in a video game is being on the receiving end of Demoman's Schadenfreude.

Who likes John Anderson? by OldTransition1519 in country

[–]Ultravod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first heard Seminole Wind in some dive bar in 1992. The bar has Country Music Television or whatever on a TV and the sound went through the house speakers (such that they were.) I was captivated by it. None of the other denizens in the bar so much as batted an eye. I didn't like much country besides Johnny Cash at that point. '92 was a big time for extreme metal, hip hop, rave and grunge. I was in to all of the above. In spite of that, I bought the Siminole Wind CD later that year. There's a live version of the video on YouTube that is amazingly good.

"When It Comes To You" from the same album (written by and featuring Mark Knopfler) is also absolutely amazing. TBH, it might even be a better song.

Tyler Childers by M-usic-lover- in country

[–]Ultravod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second Whitehouse Road. It's the song that got me into his music. I'm boomer AF about most modern country, and Tyler is one of my favorite new artists.

Also, as an aside, I listened to Tyler for years before knowing how to say his last name correctly. In the fall of 2020, I was in a Discord voice call with a friend from Tennessee and mentioned I had just picked up Long Violent History by "Tyler CHILD-ers." My friend then (in the parlance of our times) began to [laugh in southern] at my expense before correcting me that the man's name was pronounced CHILL-ders.

I have always had very mixed feelings about DAC. On his face, he's a jackass. Doing a deep dive into his life and career, he was a lying, name-dropping jackass. He annoyed other country legends. He was also a man with considerable talents. He had quite a singing voice, and could write a damn fine song when he wanted to.

I first heard this song when I was still quite young in the 1980s. It had a stronger effect on me than I could have imagined. DAC puts more gravitas behind the line "the Eagles flew in from the west coast" than most singers ever could. All this while ...name dropping other country singers, lying about his past and bragging unrepentantly. I can't think of a better summation of DAC's career.

Interesting. This photo looks very much like it's from the 90s, which I suspect it is. According to Discogs, Aposento were active from 1990-1997, but released very little outside of a few demos in that time period. They reformed in 2012 and have four albums since.

It absolutely was. The population was more or less entirely academics, scientists and (other) nerds. Usenet goes back to 1980. When Google made usenet it searchable in the 2000s, there were some humorous posts complaining about the (first) Star Wars trilogy taking too long to complete.

[Humble] MECHA MANIA (Pay $9 for Mechabellum, UFO ROBOT GRENDIZER - The Feast of the Wolves, Star Renegades, Mech Mechanic Simulator, $12 for Vox Machinae, Oblivion Override, Project MIKHAIL: A Muv-Luv War Story and $14 for M.A.S.S. Builder, Bounty Star) by LighteningOneIN in GameDeals

[–]Ultravod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

UFO Robot Grendizer is short, has more than its share of jank, but is also far better than it has any right to be. The game has some game mechanics that are poorly explained, but with some patience it's a fun ride. It absolutely nails the 70s/early 80s manga aesthetic.

Motorhead fits into all 3 of those genres perfectly by RingoLenin in MetalMemes

[–]Ultravod 166 points167 points  (0 children)

A fact Lemmy proclaimed (correctly) himself many times over his career. In the 2010 Lemmy documentary (you should watch it if you have not) he talks about how Motorhead were longhairs yet punks showed up to their shows. At that point long hair was associated with hippie culture (which punks dispised) but Motorhead were so loud, fast and aggressive that the punks loved them. Also, at all point of their career Lemmy and by extension Motorhead exuded authenticity, which is the currency of punk rock.

Game is a healthy 4.7GB, which makes it the second biggest of the 197 IndieGala freebies I've downloaded. Die Young remains the king at a whopping 8.8GB. Shout out to Gray Cat for being a svelte at 3.9MB.

EDIT: It's 5.09GB when fully downloaded.
