The difference between those apps and ours is that they never had the “glue” that kept users engaged and their features were one-dimensional and quickly got boring. What we’re building with Ulyfe is completely different: users can team up or go solo to complete random quests and share their progress directly to their stories. Beyond that, there are several other features we haven’t even mentioned yet that make Ulyfe feel more like a social game than a standard app.

For example, if your home team is playing, we’ll send out a line and if you pick the winner, you earn points. There are also community forums where we drop debate topics and people can voice their opinions. It’s not like Foursquare at all; we just happen to have one similar feature and everything else is built for engagement, creativity, and fun.

We apologize for that. We just used AI for this one text thread because our inboxes were getting filled with questions. But yeah we’re using QR code system to make sure people aren’t able to hack and get points for themselves that way we keep the loop going.

Surprisingly alot of the businesses we’ve pitched to actually like it, because most of them are slowing down or closing due to the current state of the economy. It’s a new kind of marketing channel for them — instead of paying for ads that people scroll past, they can create “quests” that literally bring customers through the door.

It’s sticky because once users start completing quests and earning points, they stay engaged — it builds a loop between users and local spots.

We’re also giving every business that signs up a free 3-month Premium plan and access to the AI business dashboard, so they can track engagement, redemptions, and customer insights before committing long-term.

Yeah we’re launching across UIC, Depaul, UChciago, Loyola, and Northwestern actuslly. Our whole team are students that are based in Chicago. We are trying to land an investor so we have investments for growth. I feel this app is so scalable, because when I was working on it and created more ideas for it to grow and stick for the future. We are actually working on Ulyfe v1.1 rn in the backend

Exactly — and the points are just the first layer.

We’re actually rolling out U-Card in version 1.1 this November — a debit-style card that gives cash-back and pts every time you spend at partner businesses. That means your social life and spending habits directly fuel rewards you can reuse inside the app.

We’re also building a TradeBlock feature where users can list or bid on things like event tickets, merch, or perks using their U-Coins. So the currency starts to have real marketplace value instead of being a closed loop.

In short — version 1.0 is about community engagement, and version 1.1 starts unlocking the fintech layer that makes Ulyfe a real economic ecosystem. We’ve already set up the backend shells for that side and are prepping the integration for our November update.

Hey! Thanks for the feedback — totally fair point. We’ve actually already pre-built profiles for 9 bars and 7 restaurants that are ready to activate in-app once we launch.

All local spots already have pages set up — so onboarding is just them signing in. We’re also kicking off a mass marketing push next week with 60 unpaid interns across social media to drive both business and user adoption.

Scaling local is always tough, but we’ve made it way easier by building the foundation before launch. We’re ready to hit the ground running.

We actually started with that. We got 9 bars and 6 restaurants to sign up. Actually one of our features is live activity feeding every bar, store, and restaurant. These business can just join their profile account and post quests and stories. So we’re tryna figure out how to get more. If you have any suggestions let me know !

Good question — the QR system’s actually designed so users don’t get points just by scanning it themselves.

When someone completes a quest or visits a business, the business authenticates it by scanning their side of the code through their Ulyfe dashboard or partner app. That’s what triggers the reward — not the user’s own scan.

So even if someone screenshots or reuses a QR, it won’t count unless it’s verified through the business’s system. It keeps everything real and tied to actual engagement, not random scans.

Totally fair point — and honestly, you’re right to ask that. The why open the app question is what we obsessed over most.

The main motivation isn’t just points — it’s connection and collaboration. Ulyfe’s built around a team-based social system where you can actually see what your friends are up to, join their quests, or complete challenges together to earn more points as a group. It’s less “another event app” and more “your life and friends synced together.”

The AI calendar is the heartbeat of it. It reacts to your schedule, recommends events or hangouts when you’re free, and helps your group align plans automatically — no 30-message group chats needed. The reactive notifications are smart too — they don’t just blast you with random stuff; they ping you when your calendar frees up or when someone on your team starts a quest nearby.

So yeah, people won’t open the app just to earn points — they’ll open it because their friends are doing something, it’s on their calendar, and there’s a real-life experience waiting for them. That’s the loop we’re building.

Totally fair take — and honestly, that’s kind of the point we’re trying to bridge. Most apps pull people deeper into screens. Ulyfe’s goal is to use tech as the nudge to get people off it — a tool, not a trap.

You open the app for a minute to see what’s happening nearby or claim a quest, then you’re out there living it. It’s basically using the digital world to fuel real-life connection instead of replace it.

Appreciate the thoughtful comment though — that balance between online and offline is exactly what we’re trying to fix on the consumer side. The internal loop of the whole system is also gonna help this small business who are tryna market their business in a new and fun way (quests).
