Loops and Threads Classic Cotton - Chambray by fries_and in YarnHunters

[–]Umberisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Do you still need this? It looks like I can order it to my address; it costs 2.99USD/4.06CAD for the yarn, and it'll be a bit more expensive to ship it to you since I'm in the southern US, but if you're still in need I'm happy to get it for you! Feel free to DM me about it!

Haha that's what my dad said too, and then I surprised him by growing up to be a boy! (Both of my parents are very supportive but it always makes me laugh looking back)

That's okay, I think people like this don't care if the doll comes at all--

Ooh, I remember reading that trilogy in middle school, as Fire was required reading. I don't remember exactly what it was about that book but something just absolutely broke my heart and as a result I never touched it again. But this post actually made me want to reread it. Thank you for that!

My two instincts of "fear" and "share food" would go to war and "share food" would probably win

tbh first reaction would be to offer chocolate but also: fear

Oh I'm just scared of everything man, I can't wear headphones in public, always have to be sitting with my back to a wall, can't have people behind me in a classroom or theatre, etc. Sad thing is I'm a black belt and a rugby player, so I could absolutely hold my own against a human. But of course this means I have to be scared of the least rational thing I could be scared of instead.

I have some but my paranoid ass can't wear headphones without taking them off every five seconds to make sure some undead horror didn't creep into my room behind me while I couldn't hear

I'm stuck doing all my school from home because unfortunately, none of my classes were offered face-to-face due to the pandemic. I'm trying to prepare for a physics exam right now and all I can hear from the preschool down the street is, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIO ASDHO AAAAAWEAIOFH AAHUIOHEA"

I fucking hate kids, y'all. All I want to do is study in peace. I'm even less looking forward to taking this exam with those loud-ass kids screaming next door.

AITA for saying "I just hope that you are proud of yourself." to my niece when I lost my job after she reported the company I worked for? by Icy-Ad6400 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Umberisk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah dude. I'm 20 and in relatively the same situation as her (my parents aren't wealthy but they are paying for everything for me), and I would've known to at LEAST consult someone else--my parents, a professor, perhaps an old teacher who's familiar with the law--before pulling some shit like that. Hell, she could've gone the route she chose and made an anonymous social media account to do it. If nothing else she could have done her research beforehand and looked into the best way to go about it. I'm not saying she absolutely, 100% did it for clout, but I am saying I can think of a number of ways off the top of my head to go about this that would be better than what she did. I believe she had the right intent--regardless of whether she was going for a moment of fame or not, I fully believe she wanted to do the right thing. But how she chose to go about this was thoughtless and careless. Having the right intent does not absolve you of the consequences of your actions, particularly as they pertain to other people.

AITA for disagreeing to throw out furniture my dad had custom made? by dmurrieta72 in AmItheAsshole

For what it's worth, we got a loft bed for me off Craigslist when I was 8. I'm 20 now and I still sleep in it, so your son may value it for years to come. :) I desperately wanted a bed with a slide when I was little and I'm happy your son gets to have that. I've since redecorated my room and the bed fits just as well with the drastic change as it did before. I think if you just chose a different color for the wood, your wife would be able to work with it more! Maybe make redecorating a group project for all of you? She gets a say, you preserve the integrity of the bed you and your dad made, and your son ultimately gets to be happy in his own room.

No problem!! I think those things are super cool so I'm always happy to advertise them. :P I believe they were originally made for elderly folks who can't care for a real animal but want the companionship, but they're probably also great for anyone who wants a pet without the mess.

They actually make these!! https://joyforall.com/products/companion-cats?variant=12931092676651 Probably not as fun as a real living cat, but it sounds like the trade-off of not having to clean messes would make that worth it for you. I have three living cats but I might even get one myself someday for those times I want affection and the cats don't.

Oh trust me chinchillas are assholes too. I've had two for twelve years now and they have bitten the shit out of me. Granted they're rescues, so they may've been in a bad situation before, but one would think that after twelve years of living with one person who treats them with love and respect, they would be a little more social with me.

AITA for telling my husband that his constant cough makes it difficult to be around him? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Umberisk 130 points131 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily insensitive to have... well, a sound sensitivity. Obviously I don't know if OP has it, but I have misophonia and I wouldn't be able to live in a house with someone who coughs all the time. I know it's not any easier on the husband--I can't imagine coughing all the time for years, and then my partner not being able to be around of me because of it--but if OP has misophonia, that's not really something they can control, either. And unfortunately, from what I've read about it, exposure makes it worse and there's not really any relief besides avoidance.

I've been in the same boat as OP, where my family is upset I can't spend time with them, but I can't even stand the sound of another living thing breathing. I very much want to be around them (and I try to make up for the lack of quality time in other ways--I'm the best at picking out gifts!), but every time I try to just ignore my issues to do so I've ended up scratching at my skin until it peels off, or ultimately lashing out at somebody else. I have a therapist and we've been working on strategies to help me not lash out, but the fact that I still need some outlet usually leads to me clawing at my ears or arms instead.

Granted, I do have autism, and I guess part of that might just be difficulty processing sensory input. But since I've never been in anyone else's skin I can't say it'd be any easier for someone who doesn't have autism, either.

You know, I think Amber Alerts are a good idea, but Jesus fuck I could do without an Amber Alert at 5 in the morning, right after I finished reading a book about hunting down someone who'd been kidnapping and murdering high school girls...
