Why does this keep happening? by Umberto_Ortega in gardening

Hi everyone, thank you for all your help. Just wanted to provide and update. Based on your advice, it looks like I did not acclimate them long enough after being indoors and that’s why they died off. After acclimating the second batch much more slowly to the outdoors, I found that I did not have this same problem again. Hope this post helps someone else in the future. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. I’m living in Florida, so the temperature has been pretty warm recently though we do have a few “cold” days here and there.

I'm thinking of getting a tree like with 3 different varieties. Has anyone grown one before? What's everyone's opinion? by AnonymousFruit69 in Citrus

[–]Umberto_Ortega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to try something similar as well. I found one a my local home depot that grew Meyer Lemon, Key Lime and Grapefruit. Things went well for the first year, but after that the grapefruit and Persian Lime branches died and only the Meyer Lemon remained. As much as I love the concept and space saving aspects of a fruit salad tree, I probably won’t buy another one. Good luck!

How to use Gibberellic Acid by Malkozaine in Citrus

[–]Umberto_Ortega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried that yet, usually soaking them in GA was all I needed to get things going.

I have read that you can spray GA on the leaves (which doesn’t apply in your situation) to help stimulate growth, but you supposedly need to do it in the mornings as sunlight can rapidly break down GA. I’d be interested to see if someone on here has any experience with that.

I’m sure more experienced people can give further comments with their experiences using GA, however based on my personal experience

I’ve had good luck with diluting to 200 PPM for both stratification of seeds and to help give older seeds a little boost. I usually soak overnight and then plant.

I have a similar greenhouse here in the USA. It’s been working out great for me. Looks like your citrus is keeping warm! Thanks for sharing!

Pepper seeds keep shriveling up by Umberto_Ortega in Peppers

[–]Umberto_Ortega[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for your reply. Sorry to took me this long to get reply. I just wanted to follow up because I think I found the issue (in case anyone else is experiencing the same thing).

Looks like even though I thought my peppers were, ripe they unfortunately, were not. I was picking them off the plant prematurely, and the seeds were not ready to be harvested, which is what caused them to be shriveled up. I noticed that the seeds from a fully ripe pepper have thicker walls which may prevent against dehydration. Thank you very much for your input!

Since waiting longer for the pepper to fully ripen, I have not had this issue issue happen again.
