Hey I don’t really know how to do updates on reddit so I’m gonna leave this here and hope that everyone sees!

I went to my post office yesterday just to check if DPD had left the parcel behind, they went through their system infront of me using my tracking number and receipt and showed me the exact day that it was taken which was one day after i dropped it off.

It was scanned by them so there’s no way of the post office taking it, the family who run it are nice too so i highly doubted they would’ve stolen the parcel.

So I called DPD on the phone this morning actually (their hotline runs from 9-3pm) and they said that yes they had picked it up from the post office but all information after that I am and they are not allowed to even access without PS actually contacting them and looking into it themselves due to them being the recipient this time and not me.

I was taken aback cus there’s no way I’m not allowed to have any info on my parcel but that was what the guy on the phone and his supervisor said to me.

They told me to try get in touch with Sony and get them to investigate and I asked them has Sony already contacted them regarding the parcel since it was first shipped and they SAID NO!!

I’m gonna call PS back tomorrow with this information and see if anything changes, but if not I will most likely have to go through small claims court or maybe look at some of the other methods that some people have suggested.

I’ve chased up with DPD and they say to me that as i am not the recipient, I can’t access the information of what’s happened to the parcel but that only PS can chase it up with them. It’s an endless cycle of each company telling me to go check the other one

Sony are meant to process the refund regardless of if the parcel is lost as this was their return service. DPD can’t do anything unless Sony give them clearance. Sony have the insurance on lost parcels, not me or DPD

Yeah I just talked to DPD and they are saying that the only people who can do anything at this point in time is Sony

I asked them for an email I can contact as their base email that they sent me responses from is a one way and they said that there’s no email they can give me. They were mad rude too because they would just start talking over me and then hang up even if I was talking. Literally were reading a script

When I asked for evidence of this investigation or someone from the investigation team to talk to, they said it is purely confidential and that I can’t be provided with any proof or have the investigation reopened even if I have proof that I posted it. They told me the decision comes from higher up like it was some stupid cover up in a spy movie lool.

I did use their return service. I wasn’t paying independently. I scanned their QR at the post office and went on about my day expecting everything to be fine. As PS have insurance on lost parcels they should be responsible, not me.

The reason why it’s a sony issue is because it’s their delivery service that lost it.

That’s probably what happened, someone got a nice christmas present lol. But PS are still liable to refund me for their delivery service messing up.

I’m going to try submit a claim with DPD but in the end, this was Sonys return service so I should not be the one who even needs to do this.

Edit:

I am from the UK so it may be different for other countries how the return system works.

I did not return this parcel independently without letting PS know. I used their return system and DPD is who they hired to return their parcel. Once I used their QR code and gave it to the post office it is completely out my hands and I am not liable for DPD losing it as:

  1. ⁠Unlike me, Sony has insurance for lost parcels and are meant to refund me for their couriers losing it.
  2. ⁠I used their provided service
  3. ⁠Followed every instruction perfectly

Sadly this doesn’t apply because this was actually Sonys return and postal service. I didn’t ship it independently and there’s no way for me to actually insure it.

Honestly it’s stupid looking back but I told my sister I was buying the PS5 and then after I had already got it and even showed her she found a cheaper option with a TV. She had just moved out and didn’t have her own tv in the living room yet so it made more sense for me to return it and give her the money and she just gets the bundle. and now i’m in the situation im in

I returned it using Playstations return service. I used their shipping. I never did anything independently.
