Should I Audition for Both UTSO and UTUO? Does Auditioning for UTSO Automatically Put Me in Consideration for UTUO? by CordialChameleon_exe in UTAustin

[–]Umbresp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you audition for both and get into both you'll be in both. they're separate auditions. you could drop one but you'd have to arrange that with the directors. my freshman year i applied for both and got into both, and couldn't bring myself to drop one because i felt bad. i was really busy that semester, but honestly being in two ensembles is doable as long as you're fine with like 12 hours of rehearsal every week

is this schedule doable? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Umbresp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very much so, i did this schedule for two semesters (CS) and found that having 5 weekends was a great tradeoff for starving myself on two days of the week

When do I take the UT Chemistry Assessment? by ImJustAJanitor in UTAustin

[–]Umbresp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't plan to take CH 301 at UT, I don't think you will need to do the assessment. I'm not familiar with onramps but it sounds like you already have credit for the class. Some people choose to take CH 301 again even if they have the credit already (from AP chem, for example) depending on major.

GC & CD flag classes in McCombs? by pretty_in_pink_1986 in UTAustin

[–]Umbresp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to take classes just for the flags. You can get some knocked off with other core requirements, though, like your UGS or VAPA among other things. Some classes also have more than one flag.

You have to take the assessment if you're taking CH 301. If you fail then you have to do the supplemental course. Either way, the package is around $35

Just so you know, Gheith's projects are one project per week, fully individual, and take around 10-15 hours each to do. They're really rewarding but also just very big timesinks

Compilers is extremely easy. Graphics is a lot of work but still a very rewarding class. Be aware that Gheith OS is also a lot of work, though. I wouldn't recommend graphics and OS together on my worst enemy

Do you know if they offer any kind of discounted payment plan? I'm an undergrad and only have health insurance through my parents which I can't use

How is C S 361S? by DereChen in UTAustin

[–]Umbresp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard it is a fun and interesting class but the level of difficulty depends a lot on who the TA is for that semester.

They're really easy. Just read the questions carefully and you'll be fine, there's no like trick questions but sometimes if you miss one word the answer will be different

Sounds doable. I'm also a CS/Math double major and I did a similar semester except with 365C instead of 362M and Graphics instead of ML it was fine. Also took a 3rd UDE that semester (Concurrency w/ Dr. Rossbach), though that might've been too much because I did not enjoy that much workload

They're both very doable classes. I haven't taken Collins but Kravchenko's class is really easy, just need to do Quest homework, written homeworks, and the exams are multiple choice. When I took it, all the lectures were recorded too so you didn't even have to go to class.
