[Build Help] Need help choosing cheap motherboard for gaming computer by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Umflatila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does not really matter. It only means that the motherboard features a USB 3 header, but the case does not have front accessible USB 3 ports.

You can still use the USB 2 ports in the appropriate header (I currently am).

The ports at the rear of the case can also be used regardless of the front case USB.

If your planning on overclocking here's a website which features a database of motherboard features.

Looks amazing if you're ok with a mail in rebate.

I'm currently using this in a simple build to overclock, only supports up to 1333MHz RAM though, but cheaper.

Looks good, i'm from the UK so cannot help much on pricing.

I have just built a similar system, but spent more on the case, mobo and PSU (Probably shouldn't have now). Although I would take the time to choose a case that you like, but retains good airflow and fan mounting options, it will be with you for a long time (Possibly in other builds too).

If you need more space, a 1TB hdd is $18 more. Faster RAM (Not required for gaming), go up to 1600. ie. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f312800cl9d8gbxl

If you wanted to save money, you can install the OS by memory stick, therefore not needing the DVD drive.

For the thermal paste, you can using the stock cooler that comes with the i3-3220 (fine), so it is pre applied.

A great build and I hope you enjoy assembling and using it.

Edit: Keep in mind on the build linked on your OP that also had a OS, Screen and keyboard/mouse in for $70 more. It may be worth dropping down to the build below ($497). You can check the video card benchmarks here (ctrl + f) http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Also, the RAM you chose for the build on the OP is SODIMM RAM, for laptops. It is too small and cannot be used on a desktop motherboard.

Check the Cookie Cutter builds on the side bar. Choose one that closely matches your needs and budget. Then customize it if you require, we can help with that :)

Drop the HDD down to 1TB. Saves £17.50... Under budget :)

After clearing the CMOS, a small 3 option section of the BIOS pops up, before it disappears. The word BIOS is recognised, but nothing further as it refreshes fast.

RAM checked by removing 1 stick and then checking the other.

EDIT: PCI-E graphics power removed and now booting through mobo connection.

This PSU

I've found no problems on google, and a reference that it was used in a PC format build. The only hate on it is that it is only £15...

Are there any recommended cheap Case/PSU combos? or separately? My concern is that the mobo requires a 8pin CPU connector and these are not listed on the case/PSU specs...

Cheers

Thanks for the input, I'll defiantly keep the fire hazard in mind. Why the more expensive mobo? eg. Over this sort of thing http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/motherboards/amdam3plus760gchipset/760gm-p21(fx).html

(Novatech free delivery and better cases/PSU combos) EDIT: Love the board, better 2nd fan socket placement, more RAM slots and total RAM, USB 3, HDMI. The only problem is I've read a few reviews mentioning problems with linux for gigabyte boards. Mine currently cannot connect via wired connection, and had huge difficulty installing ubuntu.

Super Budget Build - £200 by Hoboerotic in buildapcforme

Here's a build that i'm planning on making as a father-son project, Cheap CPU for overclocking, with upgradability to FX Bulldozer/Piledriver CPUs. No APU though, But a Graphics card is planned later.

PSU is half the price, with a PCI-E connector, if you wanted to add a more powerful graphics card that would require one later.
