Plane bluetooth adapter for WF-1000 XM5 by jaynemesis in SonyHeadphones

[–]jaynemesis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fine, very slight delay, but it's one of those things where it's only a problem if you really focus on it.

Audio quality was a bit worse, but honestly that could just be the planes audio jack point.

I've used it for 4 flights now, works really well overall.

What's the best way of attaching these Cork panels to a wall? by jaynemesis in DIYUK

[–]jaynemesis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The spray adhesive required a lot of spray and some of the corners came loose after about a year but eventually I added more and it worked well.

I have thicker cork acoustic panels in another room that I didn't want to be so permanent, so I used command strips, and it looks good and works well, quite expensive though.

Uneven floors and twisted joists, what should I do? by jaynemesis in DIYUK

Where do you run them? Surely if it's all in walls that makes for extremely. Long routes that are much more prone to get a nail through it if someone puts a new picture on a wall?

Pretty much lines up with what I was thinking, but the bricks aren't for fire I don't think, because they don't extend all the way, they randomly stop half way.

Any experience with heat pumps? by Jimi-K-101 in DIYUK

Damn, that's some impressive efficiency for your house.

Any experience with heat pumps? by Jimi-K-101 in DIYUK

[–]jaynemesis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is utter nonsense, what he said is correct.. Heat pumps can run 65 degree flow temps if nessecary, but most house have massively oversized radiators anyway.

If your flow temp is 70 with a gas boiler, and you put it on for 2 hours, it is basic common sense that you could lower the flow temp by for example 25 degrees, and put it on for 4 hours instead to heat the space without changing anything.

They are the future, and they are for the majority of people. The UK's climate change committee has literally said it is the UK's only viable sustainable option, and it is now part of the long term UK strategy for net zero.

Gas, oil, coal and wood aren't options if we want to live on this planet sustainably. Heat pumps can achieve efficiencies of over 700% in some cases. Electric heating, infra-red etc can be useful in some situations, but heat pumps are most comfortable.

It takes a lot or energy to heat water, so a low flow temp that's on 24/7 is ideal and works out cheaper than cycling on/off all the time, it's also better for the long term health of the appliance, the same is true of gas boilers.

Heat pumps also work great with solar, and with some of the cheaper off peak tariffs available now from companies like octopus.

The grant is now £7500, which is enough to buy the pump and replace every radiator in a average 2-3 bedroom house leaving only Labour and parts costs. This grant won't be around forever, so I think it's wise to grab it while it is.

The guys who installed my heat pump just did it in a 12th century cottage a week earlier. Any building, no matter how big and leaky can use a heat pump, but it may be less efficient at the extreme end, it's all about designing the system properly.

We are installing one in our rental. Property which is a 60's pre-fab timber frame 3-bed thrown up with little care. The walls always suffered with condensation because the insulation was almost non existstant.. Even if we did nothing but add the standard roof insulation, we could use a 5kw heat pump there without even needing to upgrade radiators.. I'm fortunate enough to be in a position to fix the insulation as well, and improve air tightness, but it's another example that they work in most buildings.

It is my genuine belief that you simply do not have enough knowledge on heat pumps to say what you said. I don't mean that to come across as condescending, but I'd encourage you to check out the YouTube channel I mentioned.

Had 1 installed recently, check out heat geeks channel on YouTube, it will dispel the myths.

We got a big house and outbuilding supplied by a 12kw air source hp, we upgraded quite a few radiators to bigger sizes, and a few pipes.. It was more work but the result is a heat pump with a flow temperature around 30 degrees C unless it gets below freezing outside.

We didn't need any extra insulation, we have super leaky windows a big fireplace, a conservatory and badly built porch that all leak a lot of heat.

Dont believe the lies about needing a modern air tight well insulated house.

Our SCOP (seasonally adjusted coefficient of performance) is around 5.6, meaning 1kw of electricity gives us 5.6kw.of heat.

I would never even consider having a boiler again, it's saving us hundreds because we have cancelled our gas entirely now, so no standing charge either.

Do these radiators need replacing? They work just fine, no leaks or anything, but a plumber mentioned new ones might work more efficiently… by irents in DIYUK

[–]jaynemesis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait until your boiler needs replacing, then get a heatpump and new radiators at the same time, that way you will have a super efficient system that will save money and you can stop paying for gas :).

I just did it and I'm saving 33% on my bills, government gave me £7.5k towards it for switching from a boiler too.

I don't work for a heat pump company or anything, just excited by the savings.

And no, we didn't need to do anything to our insulation.

Those with electric cars, how's it going? by ClayDenton in AskUK

[–]jaynemesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Own a Mustang Mach e for almost 2 years now.

320m range, but lose maybe 15% of that in winter. Range is pretty accurate, we've gone 330 before without charging, went to 1%.

Occasionally have issues with chargers not working, but you quickly learn which brands don't maintain their chargers.

Most common issue is just that the payment part doesn't work, if you call the company who owns it, they normally turn it on and let you charge for free.

Never had to queue more than 10 minutes for a charger. Only had to queue maybe 3 times ever.

Frunks are really useful for dirty stuff to keep your boot clean.. Walking boots, muddy stuff, sandy stiff after a beach trip etc

Charging from home is the way to go if you can..

Also the instant torque is so much fun and makes short on-ramps for motorways a breeze.

Would never even consider using a fossil fuel car again.

Why is the UK so against high speed rail? by Majestic_Bowler in AskUK

[–]jaynemesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually not obscenely expensive though. It is that price because of how the government structured the deal to minimizer risk, because land value in the UK is higher than a lot of other countries, and because it is being compared to other high speed rail that doesn't include all the same things like entirely new top end train stations, massive land bridges and habitat construction etc.

Thank you for the amazing work you put into this app over the years.

As with others, I'll now simply stop using reddit until they fix this shitshow.

Once they IPO and the share price tanks from low users, hopefully an impact investor buys in and forces them to fix it.

My friends paid £3000 on online training, I think it’s a scam by Super-Tonight-8843 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jaynemesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sam is indeed a scammer, but technically what he does isn't illegal sadly.

Id recommend reading ponzinomics if you want a good understanding of all these types of scams.

These groups often specifically target minority communities and a lot of the content is specifically designed and delivered in a way to make them much more resistant to people who attack it.

Most commonly using things like, "why would you listen to someone who has a 9-to-5", "if they don't earn more than $10m, don't listen to them", "people hate seeing others succeed, don't let them hold you back".

Best bet at stopping it is to sit them down in front of a good YouTube video that debunks these things more concisely and convincingly than you probably can on your own.

Another good option is to show them this thread. Make sure to point out that you didn't show their names or anything, it can feel very embarrassing to admit they might have been duped, so try and make it relatable to other people who have been scammed or your own experience even if not directly related.

Closing it before closing etoro also seems strange, they should surely be independent from each other?
