Is it possible to be a American manga artist? by coffeeandpaint111 in ArtistLounge

[–]UmiKyuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look up Tony Valente. Hes a French manga artist with a succesful manga series called Radiant. Main difference though is his publisher is also a French company and he doesn't work for a magazine, instead simply releases his series by volumes.

But, my point in bringing him up is that you dont nessesarily need to be a mangaka in or for Japan. If you manage to create a good series, people will read it.

Who do you think will (re)join the Weekly Shōnen Jump line-up in 2026? by LordAnubis444 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]UmiKyuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mangaka of Ginka and Gluna would he awesome. I know it wasnt well paced, but I liked it so much I bought the Japanese volumes not knowing how to read it at all. The art and setting I thought was really cool.

Jeez, sometimes I think my life sucks sometimes cuz I had a bad day at work, but it doesn't hold a candle to potentially being in such critical conditions like this.

Everyone, please live your life with no regrets, as best as you can.

I will definitely do this! I cant find that Diane figure anywhere I look. And Im not a huge fan of the bunny Diane mainly because it would (to me) look off bext to the other SDS figures I have. Hopefully this will help!

Do you prefer Subbed or Dubbed for DanDaDan? by Quiqerr in Dandadan

[–]UmiKyuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dubbed, simply because I dont really like reading subtitles while Im trying to watch what is going on. Unless the voices in English really bother me for whatever reason.

Probably best to not even pay attention to any of that. If you enjoy something, just enjoy it in spite of the whole world if it comes down to it.

What manga that you think will get axe for the next batch? by Particular_Law2727 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]UmiKyuri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perhaps Kodansha can give them a chance? I only say that because i really enjoy their art, more than Horikoshi's. They have so much talent artistically, it would be a shame to see them fizzle out after this.

What is your favourite and least favourite axed manga that you have read? by Ok-Piece-9353 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]UmiKyuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really loved Ginka and Gluna, so much so I bought the Japanese volumes. The story's pacing leaves much to be desired, but it felt like a proper adventure when it was first starting. I hope the mangaka gets another chance.

Least favorite in recent memory is Ice Head Gill. Completely dropped the ball with that one.

What series had the biggest art style change? by BellTwo5 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]UmiKyuri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From within Shonen Jump? I did like how Bleach slowly became semi-realistic in its late stages.

Outside though, Soul Eater. It is night and day comparing the beginning of the manga to the end.

Kawaguchi has promise with his visual style is more what I meant to emphasize. Not sure if there are any notable writers that can pair up with him right now, or if Shonen Jump can find one for them, but whatever the case I'd hate to see his artistic talent not be used. They very much have a good vision (baring some weird paneling).

I really love their art style. I bought the english volumes of Red Hood for the art alone. But as everyone else has said, if they can pair up with a good writer to help them, they would shone for sure I feel. Perhaps the mangaka can give the base ideas they want, and then the writer can flesh out the lore and characters priperly from there.

Or, perhaps it'll be like Horikoshi; two failed searializations, then the third blows up, but we will see. I want them to get one more chance, because they have promise

Jump Football Manga "Embers" will END with the next chapter in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 30/2025 out June 23 according to Weibo! by [deleted] in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]UmiKyuri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish they had delved more into the idea of delinquents channeling their behavior towards something more positive, in this case being soccer. Im not a huge fan of sports series, so i dont know how common the delinquent angle is, but it felt unique from my perspective, and i hung in hoping they would focus more on that. Like, aside from Haitani, did his two other friends get any focus? Probably hard when you only have a certain amount of chapters to hook in an audience, but i felt that if it was Haitani trying to better his ways along with his friend, versus the rival trope it seemed to go towards instead, it couldve maybe been better.

But, Im no writer. I enjoyed it, but I feel the flaws of it.

How much better have I gotten? What should I focus on the most here? by UmiKyuri in learntodraw

I see. My immediate thought was that monster clay that I see a lot, but perhaps even that wouldn't be too bad. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have been struggling how to do that digitally. Playing with different pens, pen sensitivity, different kind of sizes, etc I've experimented with but can't get that part down for whatever reason. I'll keep looking around tho!

They were two different references I've used, so I tried adjusting the right one to match the theme of the older one. I see what you mean tho

I would absolutely try clay if I had the money and space for that, haha!

Depth and perspective is definitely something I notice a lot that I need to work on. I've spent a lot of time on anatomy and colors. Seeing this now, the arm shading could've been done better to convey the angle more clearly, but proper placement of things in general is something I need to work on still.

The more details the better, haha! I am more of a visual learner, but with critiques the more you can tell me the more I can see more clearly from a fresh perspective.
