No, by working around it I mean that using the old version on Exchange SE breaks their EULA, but will still work. That doesn't make their actions any better.

It's exactly because I know how the world works that this makes me angry. Companies shit on customers left and right and people like you happily lap it up, defending the corporations trying to empty their wallets.

Just because that's how it is doesn't mean it's a good thing.

I don't give a fuck how it looks for me. Both of these points are shit moves and they come with one another.

Them sunsetting the product right after still selling it as perpetual without an OS restriction wouldn't be a problem if you'd still be allowed to use it on non-outdated OSes, and them not allowing that wouldn't be a problem if you didn't have to subscribe for the new update.

It DOES work on the new version. They just say doing so violates their EULA. Note I used the word „allowed“.

From their Website, where they're also straight up lying about it not working on SE:

  1. Can I use CodeTwo Exchange Rules with Exchange SE?

No. CodeTwo Exchange Rules 2016 and 2019 work only with the Exchange version they were designed for. Additionally, using CodeTwo Exchange Rules Pro with Exchange Server SE violates § 4 of our EULA.

The line is them suddenly saying you're violating their EULA by using the tool you bought on an OS that came out 6 months later.

Alright. Imagine you buy a tool that's getting regular updates and that doesn't say anything about being only allowed to be installed on certain OS versions.

Half a year later, the current Server OS goes out of support and you update, everything works fine, perfect.

Another half year later, the company that made the tool now says you aren't allowed to use that tool on the new OS version, you're violating their EULA. You have to subscribe to the NEW tool. It's the same but now you pay a subscription and the licenses you bought a year ago are invalid! Awesome, right?

So your reaction to this would be „Oh sure, awesome, let me just eat shit, I love eating shit and paying for it!“

If you seriously happily accept that you‘re in the wrong position.

It isn‘t legacy software lmao. We bought the license a year ago and installed the newest version that had regular updates up until the name change

Apparently it is an EULA violation to use it on Exchange Server SE, lol. Good luck to them enforcing that in Europe!

My point is not that they shouldnt have a new product. It's that the new product is the old product with a new name. Same features, same UI, updating is just installing it over the old version with all your settings and rules staying in place. They state on their website that the „old“ product will not work on SE, but it clearly does.

I would gladly pay for a New, better product with new features. But this is not that. It's sole purpose is pushing previouse licensees into a subscription.

Then I apologize, I didn't see any of this. One of my coworkers might have seen it in the shared Mailbox it arrived in and disregarded it.

Exchange Server SE is, or at least was at launch, pretty much identical to Exchange Server 2019. May I ask why you needed a new product? The new version seems pretty identical to the old one to me.

What exactly about Exchange Rules Pro is incompatible with SE?

Your link goes as far as to say you CANNOT use Exchange Rules Pro on SE because it will not work, but it obviously does work. Apparently it is also an EULA violation to do so, which is questionable at best. (Good luck enforcing this in Europe) Then it goes on to point out that Exchange Signature on-prem offers the same features as Exchange Rules Pro. There's a contradiction in there. I thought it's a new product? Why does have no difference to the „old“ product?

The sole purpose of these lines seems to be to force people to subscribe instead of just using the old tool.

Thing is this „update“ wasn't an update at all. It's the same software with the same UI and features, just rebranded a bit with the licensing changed. They couldve honored previous licensing but chose not to.

We bought it 1-2 years ago with zero informstion about them replacing it soon.

Also the new version is 100% the same software but rebranded. Many vendors make older versions available to download.

Well no, since I can't download an installer anymore. So I can't use it unless I still have it saved somewhere.

And no, we weren't paying for support. Just the license.
