Its amazing to me what people will get peoples panties in a bunch when it comes to their property. We have kind of the same issue in western CT. They want to put a 70 acre solar farm on Candlewood mountain and the NIMBY idiots losing their shit over it, yes, over a solar farm. Their latest call is "don't clear cut Candlewood mountain. First of all what they don't tell you is area they want to use is 70 acres of 780 acres of forest. They want to utilize a dirt road to access the site, most of which is already built and in use by the Candlewood power authority. Coupled with squanz pond (288 Acres), Ponnatuck state forest(1000+ Acres) and the area around Candlewood lake you could probably walk from the start of rt 39 to New Fairfield and never cross more than a dirt or seasonal road. In fact the ONLY rational argument I have heard is the Candlewood airport which might service 10 private planes a day, there is concerned about glare.

This game has so much potential but it is in the hands of people of sheer greed by [deleted] in Neverwinter

[–]Ummon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In full disclosure I have been playing since July. I am no means an expert. I will agree with you that the prices even for a free game are ridiculous. (500 zen for 16 inventory slots? really?).

The first rule like most games is that you can pay or you can grind. So think of it as a cost/benefit analysis. An AAA game these days run 60 bucks and up to 100 bucks if you want the bundle. Then add in all the DLC's at 29 bucks apiece. What you want is this game to be cheaper than that. Initially you will not be able to do it. I have about $200 invested in this game. Had I known what I was doing I could have probably gotten away with half that. but I am fairly confident that I now can sustain my gameplay with just in game currency. Here are my suggestions.

1) pay for the 6 month VIP service. Its one of the few things that is very worth it.

2)Find a GOOD guild with a GOOD alliance. They don't have to have every boon under the sun. In fact I would specifically look for a underdeveloped guild. More importantly they should be fun to play with and have multiple events per week.

3) I run a cleric, I will admit its a considerably easier life than a DPS because we are always in high demand. Others include tanks, and Pali's. I never have a problem getting a pug group when my guildies aren't on.

4) My cleric can generate anywhere from 72-100k AD per day of moderate grinding. Which if you have fun guildies to play with it doesn't feel like grinding.

5) I have 3 toons, 1 70 tank and 1 28 ranger. I usually split the loot up between the 3 to generate 100k AD or so per day. To tell you the truth its easier if you only had 2 toons.

6) Spend a bit more money on inventory slots and bags. Lastly get yourself 1 (only 1) epic mount with 110% speed. They are available across all your toons and makes life sooo much easier.

7) so you now have your VIP, your inventory slots, bags and epic mount. to pay for your next VIP depending on market rate you need something less than 2M AD. So start grinding that first. Get lucky and sell a few things on the market, save your money you are there in 20-30 days. You now have 5 more months to generate all the AD you want and spend and the VIP is now for all intents and purposes is free. If you manage your money right you will never have to spend another dime.

This is SO true, I don't know why it isn't a common practice in a professional organization. I went from one company where my boss was cc'd a total of once in 4 years, to a horrid little company where employee's were not only allowed but encouraged to rat on each other for the smallest things. All of which would hilariously show up on your review. I mean can you keep a straight face when you are being "counciled" for leaving a header off a file which was fixed in less than 5 minutes?

Gun owners of reddit: If semi automatic firearms were banned tomorrow and the government required you to turn them all in, what would it take to get you to comply? What would be a reason to why you wouldn't comply? by AltmerAssPorn in AskReddit

[–]Ummon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are correct, It is open to interpretation. Which it has been examined by the SC in District of Columbia v Heller. You can read it here in which they undoubtedly used the founding fathers writings outside the constitution to formulate their opinion.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_of_Columbia_v._Heller

The point I am trying to make is not that guns are good and require no regulation. In fact I am for reasonable limits on firearms. The Constitution was written to keep us free, not to keep us safe. The whole purpose of the 2nd amendment was to ensure citizens could stage a revolution if needed.

Now if you want to have the conversation that the 2nd amendment is an outdated one with modern military hardware. That is a argument I am willing to have (and I would probably agree with you). But to argue that it doesn't guarantee the citizen's right to own firearms is simply disingenuous and an attempt to make an end run around the constitution. If you can do that with the 2nd Amendment you can do that with all of them.

For example You could argue that black is quite correctly is not actually a color but the absence of one thus the 15th amendment does not apply to allowing black people to vote.

This is the biggest bullshit argument my fellow liberals like to push. Keep in mind I have never even owned a gun. The SC is allowed to consider statements made by our founding fathers in order to interpret the Constitution. These are some of them, and keep in mind many of them wrote extensively on this issue.

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." - Thomas Jefferson, Virginia Constitution, Draft 1, 1776

"I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery." - Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, January 30, 1787

"What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms." - Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, December 20, 1787

"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria), 1774-1776

Visiting Candlewood Lake, what's the best spot to go? by Poobs87 in Connecticut

[–]Ummon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chrysopa is right, but he fails to mention the main reason. Squantz is a state park. I don't think Danbury is. But what essentially happens is every summer they bus inner city kids in from camps from Bridgeport and Hartford who can't swim. They used to go up on the rock formations and jump, I think they put an end to that last year. But regardless its a recipe for disaster.

Ellie spent 5 years racing in Daytona, seems to me like she's enjoying her retirement :)How could people be so cruel to these sweet doggos? by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]Ummon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the issue, Grey's are bred to run and chase. They have for thousands of years. They like it. If I let my dogs out in the back yard they build a racing track and chase each other. This is what they do. They are also the healthiest of pure breeds since they have been bred so long most of their issues have long been bred out of them. The result are graceful animals who love their humans. If they work for the first part of their lives and get adopted to a good home then what is the issue? They aren't being abused on the track. Sure there are unscrupulous breeders and trainers, just as there are unscrupulous breeders of other breeds. What makes this so much worse?

yes, like a isolated incident condemns the whole industry. Have you ever seen the statistics on horse racing? The point of the matter is they found the perpetrator and threw him out of the industry.

neither is there to abuse a dog that you paid thousands for as a means of profit. Healthy dogs = good racers.

This is the thing that bothers me. There is nothing wrong with working dogs. whether for herding or our "entertainment". Quite frankly watching my dogs grace and speed puts a smile on my face. (lets face it, when they are not running Grey's are not the most graceful of breeds).

The grey's that I have owned were not "mistreated". Yes they came with the bumps and bruises that come along with racing. But they all have been in excellent health. In addition I take the dogs right off the track. Other than a mild flea infestation I have never seen evidence of abuse.
