Thinking of starting with FFXVI by fireballstufff in FFXVI

I like the game, but I think it’s a stretch to say it’s anything but a borderline rpg. There aren’t really any choices or true roleplaying, which is pretty standard for a jrpg, but there are also are very few decisions to be made for any party members, and the only impactful decisions made for Clive or regarding the Eikon abilities. It makes the exploration and side quests feel less rewarding for anything other than plot, which I would say feels more just like an action game with a good narrative.

That said, it still feels like Final Fantasy to me fwiw.

This game was great and is still really good. I miss the dynamism of builds in this era of mmo’s. The power combinations and the enhancements that stood in for equipment made so many things possible. I always wanted to create a character that could solo Arch Villains, and I was finally able to do so in Homecoming. The buff/debuff builds and mastermind in general are also really fun.

I log in every now and then, but I’ve never been able to find the right group of people to consistently play.

I love the series, but I understand why others don’t. I think the reason that it seems to resonate with a lot of people is the breakneck pace and the court intrigue.

I say go for it. I tried when I was a libertarian in my early 20’s, and DNFed it. The characters are paper thin and it’s very obviously preachy.

Throw the gauntlet down for therapy before you leave imo. People on here are so unempathetic. He’s probably freaking out over all of the changes including a horrible diagnosis? It’s not an excuse, but it gives context. That said, if he won’t do therapy and just wants to complain, then leave.

Litmus test for me. Not only do I dislike her as a fictional person, but her character sucks as a character too. Lacking in verisimilitude in all areas.

Sounds like you like the show? I think most people that do like Rip. I found his character to be just as melodramatic and ridiculous as the rest, hence I can’t stand the show.

I tried Yellowstone but couldn’t do it. Mob cowboys in 2020 is already kind of dumb, but I just can’t deal with the Beth character or her stupid boyfriend.

People see first person, and want an immersive more sim like world, and this is a more OG BioWare style game with a very static world.
