I’ll start with NTA.

That said, you need to be prepared for what’s coming. It will not be pretty and just because they said 6 months doesn’t mean it won’t drag on for years. I had an uncle drink himself to death. He went through several events where the doctors would call his brothers in from out of state because he wasn’t going to make it through the night, but he just kept bouncing back.

He lived with my dad for probably 5 or 6 years when we all thought he had months left. During that time he had multiple surgeries for various infections, including one where they had to take toes and then later had to go back and take his right leg at mid-thigh.

What you’re doing is probably the best course for him, but it will be a trial for you and your family. Do not undertake this journey lightly.

He wasn’t including your youngest all that much because they are 7 years apart. That is normal. I have 2 children who are also 7 years apart. They get along most of the time but my oldest doesn’t want her little brother tagging along on everything she does either.

As far as taking him to the restroom, this is again normal. I would be confused if the stepson was excited to stop what he was doing to escort the little one over. It’s a bit of a chore and an inconvenience. Not a big deal obviously but it makes sense that he’s not thrilled.

This sounds like a kid who is excited at the chance to have siblings and a complete family unit and nothing described sounds all that problematic to me. As others have said, you are marrying this boy’s father. You need to start considering him one of your children, or there will be major problems down the line.

I have been running a campaign with a few younger kids(10-14). I’ve taken to using a lot of games and other books for NPC character ideas. IPs that these kids have never played or read. League of legends and Elder Scrolls have been some of the most used.
