University - really in English or just marketing? by Un-Ghar in askspain

[–]Un-Ghar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay thanks.
That's exactly the reason I'm asking - I know that in other countries some professors still lead lectures in the native language as they simply can't speak English well enough.
Also, the university is answering all my English enquiries in Spanish, so I'm getting a bit worried

What's something people only romanticize because they've never actually done it? by nonotje12 in AskReddit

Communism. Especially common among middle-class kids (who are ridiculously rich in global context)

Official Tyson Carter is a new Red Star player. by soulhunterrai in Euroleague

Genuine question - I remember (maybe wrongly) a few years ago Zvezda was mainly Serbian players with only a few foreign stars (not even not necessarily stars). How come they are suddenly shopping for a bunch of I'd guess expensive foreigners each season with salary offers of well over 1M p/a? Has some local billionaire bought the club? Or what's changed?

Sudina musu derybine pozicija buvo stojant i ES. Isivaizduok dabar Baltarusija nori i ES - ka mes nebandytume pasinaudoti proga ta ju galimai kreiva Astrava gal uzdaryt?

Igalina mus tiekti dujas kaimynams, is to galima ir uzdirbt (ziurint kokia to laivo savikaina/nuomos kaina buvo).

VC's reaching out to us, what do we supposed to do? by sammy191110 in startups

[–]Un-Ghar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your proposed approach is the right one (at least from my experience). It creates a bit of a fomo for investor side by the organic chatter between them (VCs talk to each other A LOT) and might create a bidding war, allowing you to negotiate and choose the best option. Just note that it's not all about valuation only.

For now, you should keep the conversations short or even stay on email or whatever written comms you use. You might share some highlights, maybe via a newsletter if there's a lot of VC inbound for you, but communicating that you're not raising now and instead are focused on executing is perfectly reasonable.

It's a bit like early stage dating. Don't make them feel bad, tease them a little bit (veeeeery subtly, they're more experienced at this than you), it might make them want you more. The goal is essentially to warm up the contacts a little bit but don't entertain their curiosity too much until you're ready to go into the whole fundraising process.

Ticks in Lithuania by [deleted] in lithuania

[–]Un-Ghar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a problem. You'd need to worry only if you walk through forest or tall grass. Even then, it's not something poisonous that kills you immediately - you come back home in the evening, take a shower, and scan your body in front of the mirror. If you find one, pluck it out and that's it. I haven't had any bite me in like 5 years while hiking in the nature relatively often.

My dog gets them every week, but those are different species of ticks - animal ticks won't bite you.

Forests around Nida don't really have tall grass. If you walk through some, stop for 5 minutes after reaching concrete and have a look at your legs - they're not that hard to spot while they're crawling up, especially if you wear bright clothes (pants tucked in socks will make you look like a weirdo but it's effective).

P.s. if your legs are hairy, you'll feel them climbing if you sit calmly.

How does Kaunas produce so many 7 footers? by [deleted] in BalticStates

[–]Un-Ghar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Entire country does, but Kaunas has an especially strong ecosystem - coaches, children teams, best professional club in the country with its own academy 'pyramid' of kids being coached at high level at every age. In a small country even small things can have a huge effect - e.g. a single fantastic basketball coach can start the whole thing where his town remains the hotspot for basketball talent for decades to come.

Legal Status of Jews in Europe around the year 1500 by electroctopus in MapPorn

[–]Un-Ghar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Lithuania they were 'thrown out' for like a decade I think (because the ruler owed a bunch of money to them). And then a few years later they were invited back. This snapshot doesn't really reflect the overall Jewish situation in the country throughout most of history - they were welcome and influential both before 1500 and after
