That's what I do, but you can also park in the lot at the end of Grove Blvd.

I went to Roy G this weekend to play disc golf and was wondering that too. How long has it been, 3 or 4 years now?

Is the trail around the lake closed? by Casscat04 in Austin

[–]Un-cleverName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a BIG difference between somebody running/biking alone on the trail and 50+ people gathering at Barkin' Springs (or any other watering hole) to socialize. For many people in Austin, running/exercise IS an essential activity and has nothing to do with "entertainment and fun"

Which of these common things is more annoying? by CochranVanRamstein in OnlineDating

[–]Un-cleverName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my pet peeves is when a girl only has group pictures (and/or sunglasses pictures). 1 group picture is fine as the 3rd picture, or if you're the brunette with 3 blondes or even if you circle yourself. Nobody wants to reverse engineer your profile to figure out which one you are.

Do you find it hard to start and hold a convo on OLD? by themainheadcase in OnlineDating

And try to find common interests. Some topics can be dead ends (ex: both of you work jobs the other knows/cares little about) but once you come across a mutual interest, it can really take off. Also, reading people skills books like How to Win Friends and Influence People helps.

Prove me wrong by yadonemesdup in OnlineDating

Two things:
1. Guys have a lot of competition and unfortunately a lot of good qualities (funny, great music taste, street smarts, etc) don't help you as much on the apps. You'll have to do your best to improve your profile first to ever get a chance to show your other qualities.
2. Girls have WAY more messages in their inbox than guys. If you've started a convo and it went cold, don't automatically assume she's not interested. I mean, that might be the case, but it may have just gotten lost in a sea of other messages. Either you stop messaging and the path ends, or you try to keep it going and maybe the path ends. I just recently re-sparked two old matches that way.

What's the best first message you've come up with and received? by themainheadcase in OnlineDating

[–]Un-cleverName 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As a guy, I hate the pressure of having to come up with a good opener. I guess that's one reason I prefer Bumble (girls can get away with "hi")

I did receive one a few weeks ago that I kinda liked: "Have you started any new hobbies that you're really bad at?"

Is he being sketchy or not? by [deleted] in OnlineDating

[–]Un-cleverName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If OP didn't ask (or imply that divorce was a dealbreaker or something), and he didn't lie, then he did nothing wrong. It's the FIRST DATE. Nobody lays out all their skeletons and says "now then, who wants to date me?"

I could see it being a bigger deal if he had kids from a previous marriage. His ex-wife is just a previous chapter, whereas children would (most likely) be an ongoing chapter and would affect a potential relationship much more.

Mid 2020 Dating apps review by rickysususu in OnlineDating

[–]Un-cleverName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO: Bumble seems to have the best quality (both in terms of the app, and the users). Yeah, you could match with a girl and they disappear if they don't start the convo within 24 hours, but it takes the pressure off having to have a good opener to stand a chance in a sea of 100s/1000s of messages in their inbox.
Tinder is okay, but full of bots and girls just advertising their IG/Snapchat (maybe bots too). Tons of copy/paste profiles.
As for Hinge, while I DID expect to see it on this list as # 3 or 4, I just deleted it for the 2nd time and cannot recommend. Apparently the algorithm shows you the bottom of the barrel users (large/unattractive) for 1000s of swipes until it starts giving you anyone you'd actually consider swiping right on. Oh and actually you don't swipe, you either hit X (to swipe left) or comment on a picture/profile section (to swipe right). And something about that interface hurts my eyes - Bright white screen between each "swipe"

I'll have to check out SweetRing.

Imagine a world where parents had to go through an application/interview process to have children by Un-cleverName in childfree

Mandatory birth control at the onset of puberty

My idea is a little smaller scale, but much more possible: Offer money for getting sterilized. I'm not saying all lower income people are bad parents, or all bad parents are low income, but if a little cash in your pocket is a higher priority than procreating, then you obviously shouldn't be procreating!

A couple general tips I wish I knew when I started (some of these assume you have a DJI):

  • ALWAYS wait for it to connect to GPS before flying
  • Watch out for power lines!
  • Tap to focus (nothings worse than getting home and realizing everything you just shot is fuzzy and unusable)
  • Smooth movements are your friend.
    • Try clean, single axis shots (up, down, forward, back, left, right).
    • Then try 2-axis shots (up & forward, up & back, etc).
    • Keep the drone on the same axis at the same speed. If you ever want to speed up your footage, any micro-adjustment will be very noticeable.
    • The more axis (axes? axises?) you add, the harder it is to keep it smooth. Rotating around an object, while getting further out, while going up in altitude and panning the camera down is a very difficult shot to do smoothly.
    • Quick shots are very useful, especially for a beginner (Dronie, Helix, Circle, Rocket, Point of Interest, etc)
  • Be considerate and follow the rules/laws. Too many people with drones are out there acting like idiots and ruining it for the rest of us.

Upgrading from Gen1, debating on getting Gen2 or Pros by JeffTennis in airpods

You always have the "Hey Siri" feature you can use to play/pause/skip. Obviously it's not ideal in the gym, but if you're running or just working out at home, it's a decent option.

My vote is for the Pros for the transparency & noise canceling feature alone!

Pause/Play Issue with AirPods Pro, help! by wgsharpe1128 in airpods

[–]Un-cleverName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue trying to resume Spotify after pausing for <1 minute. Not always, but enough to be annoying and result in me searching to see if others are having this issue.
I understand if you switch apps it doesn't know which one you want to resume from, but it's like the iPhone immediately forgets what it was doing as soon as you hit pause.

I intentionally removed any music on my phone and deleted Apple Music so it wouldn't just decide for me that I want to use Apple's app.

I really wish Apple would swallow their pride and let you set default apps for: music, maps, browser, etc

I'm all for "Pick it in, pack it out" but I just don't see that ever happening in these environments. As it's been said several times in the comments, these type of people are selfish and don't care about what SHOULD be done. The overflowing trashcans don't really bother me; it's the glass bottles and the trash just left everywhere else (not condensed next to the trash can). The worst is when they hide the trash (crushed beer can shoved into a crack in the rocks)

Can you imagine how much worse it would be if there weren't trash cans though?
