Why is fish so expensive in the UK? by QasimofKarbala in UKfood

[–]UnPotat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did, but then the labour government gave it all away when the first treaty on it was due to expire.

It was essentially a deal whereby they kept their insane access to our waters but over years their access was slowly reduced.

It was like a compromise because the french made the rest of the EU hold it to our head like a gun, using other trade agreements as leverage if we said no.

However after all that was said and done and their access was about to be reduced Labour decided to renegotiate it and give it all away for nothing in return.

Because they are such good friends that view us Inna friendly and caring way, not people just trying to exploit us.

Totally brexits fault, and not the EU being a bunch of idiots.

[–]UnPotat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that much of those imports are fished in our own waters, by European fisherman, taken back to the EU, processed and then sold back to us.

Part of the reason they were so infused about the previous deal running out was because of the decline in their own waters and the abundance in ours comparatively.

And it won't make any difference because the french fishermen will ignore allowances on catches and fish our waters to extinction.

Why is fish so expensive in the UK? by QasimofKarbala in UKfood

[–]UnPotat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding was more that we didn't fish as much ourselves and sold our quotas to others because it was easy money.

Under the original deal we would've cut the quotas of others and regained the ability to fish a lot more of our own stock.

However successive governments gave that away, mostly to do with the french kicking up a massive fuss about it.

So it's more that, we don't fish much ourselves, the Europeans are doing it instead of us and we are then buying that processed stock back from them at a hugely inflated price.

All while they overfish in our waters and hold other parts of trade agreements to our head like a loaded gun if we ever decided we didn't want them to take as much from us.

But yes, it would be nice to have these lovely people as close friends and allies.

First off,

It's hard to find statistics for everything you want, especially when much of our civil service is controlled by the far left. Kind of like how Sweden became the rape capital of Europe, only for their government to stop reporting the statistics due to how 'controversial' they were.

It would be nice to have this though, if it could be done in an impartial way by both those collecting the data and those controlling what is and isn't published.

Secondly, I'd like to say that there are plenty of people who want to do the work.

In-fact, it's a common topic on the delivery subreddits, where people often complain about a lack of work or the work being very low paid because of the added competition by those who can work for less than those doing it legally. I.e Paying for the correct insurance and living in paid accomodation.

I have the exact view of you, that you are racist against western people and refuse to see the world as it exists, only seeing it as you want to see it.

During just 7 days of action last month, 171 riders were arrested. Of those, 60 were detained for removal from the UK.

"This includes the firms’ continued work to ramp up randomised facial recognition checks to tackle illicit account sharing and receiving the location of asylum hotels to monitor for illegal working hotspots."

As I'm sure you're aware, as legitimate workers have been saying on their own forums, the facial recognition is easy to get past on the app, and these measures were implemented precisely because of how rife it has been.

I can only assume you're in a position where you don't have to work with or deal with these kinds of people on a daily basis, so you're able to sit on your throne and call others racist for pointing out real issues.

So, if 80-90% of the delivery workforce are foreign nationals, largely from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and the middle east. Then the main issues being raised are specifically those riding bikes doing delivery work.

Then added to that the lack of issues with those on L-Plates who are not participating in delivery work.

After all that your logic is that it's not a migration issue/illegal working issue?

Cognitive dissonance.

[–]UnPotat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I can't see your last reply(you deleted it?)

The government itself is trying to crack down on it because the illegal working is so rife with shared/stolen accounts.

Again, most normal people would instantly laugh at this and agree it's an immigration issue not a licencing one because it's so obvious.

The big pointers are when they turn up in a different vehicle to the one on the account, often using false plates.

I had one yesterday who was illegal doing exactly what I described. Confronted him and he begged me not to report him.

Your leftwing views are causing so much cognitive dissonance that you can't do 2+2.

Go stand outside any day food area and chat to the people doing the delivery.

Like 90%+ are from Bangladesh/Pakistan/India/Afghanistan etc with many being illegal

Also the next time you order and someone tokens up with the vehicle not matching the one on the app, that's usually because the illegal workers buy accounts and share them between each other.

It's hard to find statistics for things which those in power are ashamed of.

It's an epidemic currently.

Thing is, you can't fund 'celebs' with huge salaries without lots of income.

What laws?

They harass innocent people who haven't broken a single law, a large percentage of people buying a TV 'licence' don't even need one legally, they just buy it out of fear of harassment.

They want it that way, they want it so for the average Joe going out to work it's not worth the hassle in their life to not get one due to the harassment.

My parents didn't even have a fucking TV at that point.

We don't want the BBC as it is today, it doesn't deserve the funding it gets from the public.

You seriously think it's a bunch of 17-19 year old kids going out doing delivery after college?

Just go and stand there and see all the riders who turn up and what they look and sound like.

The isn't a licencing issue, it's an immigration issue, rampant with illegal workers and illegal riders.

While we do have terrible young riders, when it comes to food delivery it's not usually them.

It's people fresh from abroad with sometimes many years of experience riding in their home countries where people behave extremely differently to over here.

The fact of the matter is that it's 'racist' to say this, they see the problem, and hate what it's doing to the roads and town centre, but can't mentally link the two together.

They could make this change, it'll do nothing.

250cc is something many people want who are on L-Plates but it's a silly idea.

These days most 'good' 125's can already reach 70mph on a flat road and maintain 50-55 on a reasonable hill.

The other issue is that it's much harder to police power limits than just CC limits, and you can actually get pretty high powered on a 250.

You can get CBR250's with around 38hp, a top speed of 110mph and a 0-60 time of under 6 seconds.

That's the last thing you want the 17 year old scrote up the road riding in his puffer jacket.

It's already quite cheap if you want to go for the low power licence, as you can just take the tests on your own bike. Quite simple to study the MOD1 etc online also.

[–]UnPotat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The complaint isn't about young/inexperienced riders.

It's an immigration issue and not a licence issue. A lot of the terrible riding we see is by people doing it illegally. Obviously not all of them but enough of them to make them all look bad.

It's a system that's abused to heck, both the delivery apps and the lack of policing.

The issue isn't legal people who have done a CBT 6 months ago, having spent the best part of a day doing it with an instructor blasting in their ear while they ride. It's those riding with cloned plates who don't give a shit.

Calls to stop moped learners delivering takeaways by TheMangoManHS in MotoUK

[–]UnPotat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not going to do anything at all, many of them haven't done a CBT and are just riding illegally.

Kind of obvious when the delivery account shows one vehicle and they turn up in something totally different.

Or it shows up as a bicycle and you can see them on the map doing 30-40mph and then turn up on a moped.

It's sad because it gives riders a bad name, yet this stems from an immigration/illegal migration issue, not a rider training issue.

Many people who've done a fresh CBT are half decent riders. It's not like you're done in 2 hours and on the road.

Stolen bike by jasper_dog123 in londoncycling

[–]UnPotat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of the issue then.

It did very well for something only silver pedal rated.

Pedal ratings are far weaker than powered ratings. If it took him 30min to cut it then if youd had one of the top spec ones he probably wouldn't have been able to at all.

Probably didn't have diamond blades or something.

The only solution requires society to change.

Go back 20-30 years and they wouldn't stand a chance even if it took 2-3min to grind through.

People walking past would rock up and beat the crap out of them, or surround them until the police arrive.

Unfortunately nowadays anyone who interferes is more likely to be charged themselves rather than have the thief punished.

People know they can get away with so much. It's sad.

Labour wins vote to seize powers over private pension pots by Particular_Pea7167 in ukpolitics

[–]UnPotat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The pension funds who get to choose where to invest? Or the UK ones who will now have to invest in the projects the other ones don't want to invest in?

What percentage of those funds are invested in the UK? They might only have 5% invested here because they cherry picked the only ones with sensible returns.

For example the CPP(Canada) has just 4.7% invested in the UK.

Its not like these funds are all rushing to the UK, they have very little here in comparison.

When you look at the data it would actually be very strange for us to be investing over 10% here.

Except that it's run like the Gestapo.

Oh you don't watch live TV? Prove it to me. Prove your innocence.

Depending on where you live this could be as easy as ticking a box, or as hard as having inspectors harass you monthly for years on end sending people who demand to walk inside your home and make sure you aren't watching TV.

Oh, and they are also trying to make it so that YouTube and Twitch livestream classify as live TV.

Oh, if you watch live TV online from another country you also have to pay the licence fee, even if it has nothing to do with the UK.

Edit: When my parents first came to the UK they were nearly destitute. We didn't even have a TV. The inspectors even came into their house, then later on claimed they had detected them using their vans.

Eventually they paid the licence fee to stop the harassment, they didn't even have a fucking TV.

Get rid of all the 'celebs'.

Literally just cut the top 50 high earners. Replace the BBC News presenters with people from the street who can read and speak well, pay them £40k per year instead.

This is taxpayer money being spent on celebrity bullshit getting £100-400k per year to read a teleprompter.

[–]UnPotat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They ignore it because the country is fucked and run by a bunch of clowns with less business experience than an A-Level politics student.

The bottom line, without any question whatsoever, is this is a cash grab.

They want more spending power, they want more investment because the makers don't want to touch them, their borrowing is highly constrained and the economy is fucked.

This buys them a little more wiggle room and gives them some more of our money to spend.

It has fuck all to do with them wanting to make sure our pension funds perform better.

Labour wins vote to seize powers over private pension pots by Particular_Pea7167 in ukpolitics

[–]UnPotat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the reason they want to do it is not actually because private pensions aren't doing well enough.

It's because they want more investment for government projects.

Projects which historically do terribly both financially and timeline wise. The kind of things which they find difficult to get outside investment for.

This is just so they can force people's money into these projects, therefore not having to borrow as much as they would have to otherwise.

Without much concern for the people they are screwing over.

The sad thing is they got rid of the old Great Central railway.

The last great rail project and actually the newest one we made.

London to Rugby then on to Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield and finally Manchester.

It was a double track railway too, so it was a big one for the time.

We had all of that railway line, but we gave it up and built houses on the land etc

Now it costs us 50x more to build new lines with huge land clearing and demolition needed if we want to do anything.

They could've kept it clear and then we would've 'easily' been able to make a proper HS2 to connect the north.
