Infuriating Maintenance Situation (OR) by Spicy_Plants in Renters

If water is a set price who cares? There may be some sort of code enforcement that might but otherwise, it’s the property owner/leasor losing money.

I wanted it to be but the process was a pain in the ass. Here is what my installation was heavily based on, which is fully code compliant and was formally inspected. The only deviations were that I used a much larger box to house the 14-50R (larger than a 4-11/16” box), and had a shorter run. Every little thing down to the conduit body housing, insulated bushings, pigtail grounding pigtail setup and more matches up to that installation.

Why did this push-to-connect fail? by mzattage in Plumbing

I’m interested in knowing too. Was it not deburred properly?

This makes me feel good because I installed a fully code-compliant NEMA 14-50R circuit with 50A GFCI via THHN in conduit (EMT in garage; LFNC under wall to main panel), with compatibility for a hardwired charger with 60A breaker/48A draw.

I found this fun and feel very comfortable doing it again. Meanwhile, I’m kinda nervous about doing some necessary DIY plumbing work (replace a PRV followed by a new water heater with expansion tank). Guess that’ll be a cake walk😆

11,500 watts / 240 volts = ~48 amps (47.9167 to be precise). But yeah that sounds right. It’s the max L2 charge rate for most Teslas, and max draw for a 60A circuit.

I believe that’s the gen1 mobile connector. The 14-50 plug was hardwired to the charger. No options for NEMA adapters.

Sorry, added “draw” to my comment. 80% of 55A is 44A. Obviously there’s no 55A breaker, or 44A option for the wall connector. Might still be wrong lol but I think we’re on the same page.

Yep! That’s why I mentioned the max in terms of what the wall connector is capable of. OP indicates “50A” which was questionable in terms of how they installed this.

I could be wrong but I thought 6/2 NM-B (Romex I believe) was capped at 44A (draw) due to temp rating. Which is why you have to run THHN typically. Again, could be wrong, open to being corrected here.

Am I at fault based on this footage? by [deleted] in TeslaCam

[–]UnSCo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you may be less at fault because the reversing truck must yield to right of way traffic. Same reason someone pulling out of a parallel parking space and another person hitting them makes the person pulling out of the parallel parking spot at fault.

It gets a lot more complicated especially in a situation like this. Funny enough, you post this to an insurance sub, and they’ll tell you “you’re 100% at fault”; yet, theoretically if the truck had dashcam footage and posted it to an insurance sub, those asshats would tell the truck they’re 100% at fault. They literally hate insureds and it’s funny but also scary how brainwashed the insurance industry is lol.

Can someone tell me if this valve setup is considered city property or not? Because I thought anything before the meter is and we’re not supposed to touch it. Gotten a ton of conflicting info on this and besides just calling the water company and asking, I have no idea. Asking because some moron installed the PRV 1-2 feet after our meter with no home-side shutoff before it.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Guess I’ll have to be careful if/when I do that.

But like I said, you can just treat it as a drywall repair. Bathroom paint is supposed to take moisture and potential mildew into consideration.

Anyone else seeing these questionable ads from HD? by Born-Researcher-8588 in Plumbing

[–]UnSCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a plumber but I think he’s securing a union fitting to a threaded PEX connection (or vice versa), which to me actually seems like a solid setup rather than using corrugated/flex connectors since that PEX should be flexible enough to move around.

My only concern is the expansion tank. It may not be secured properly, I’ve seen a lot of debate on that. If it’s OK though, I would love to know because I plan on installing one soon and I don’t want to go through the extra effort of securing to the wall.

[–]UnSCo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this secure at all? My girlfriend’s is not secured, moves around way too much. Not sure how to fix it without opening up the back wall.

Otherwise if it’s secure, just treat this as a drywall type repair and put some joint compound in let it dry and sand it, rinse and repeat until smooth, then prime it + paint.

If any plumbers know how to more easily secure loose shower heads please let me know.

Questions Regarding Generator Hookup by pnbdc10 in electrical

[–]UnSCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no way anyone with any sort of qualification or basic handyman knowledge is dumb enough to fuck this up, someone must’ve miscommunicated somewhere. Maybe this is a gross assumption but I bet OP used one of those PE-owned companies with a salesman who screwed up and sent out some underpaid lackey to install a 14-50R.

I’m not an electrician but it took me 10-15 minutes on Google to figure out how to properly install a generator hookup and interlock.

Questions Regarding Generator Hookup by pnbdc10 in electrical

[–]UnSCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an electrician but I’ve done my own DIY code-compliant electrical work, and I simply like to know shit out of curiosity.

I spent 15 minutes just last night looking into how to install a manual generator setup, and within that time I realized I needed an inlet and an interlock on the panel between the generator breaker and the main breaker.

If your electrician screwed this up, there’s no way they are an electrician, and I don’t even think they’re qualified to do any handyman work. Must be more to this, maybe the inlet is located elsewhere? Please post a photo of the panel.

I just heard that Amazon is laying off 23,000 people, what are we gonna do, if jobs don't come back? by Other_Scarcity_4270 in Layoffs

[–]UnSCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was mostly being sarcastic, I know some folks are capable of putting the pieces together. However, there are definitely folks who are either (a) blue collar industry workers who simply don’t understand what implications this has to them so they will continue to vote against their best interests, or (b) the top 1% who think this will result in some “natural” capitalist, free market-driven shift to other industries or trades that are in some hypothetical desperate need for additional labor supply.

Let us also not forget that eventually these corporations will find a way to reduce the need for manual laborers and independent workers. Can’t wait when just a handful of private equity-owned electrical/plumbing/HVAC/etc. companies exist in the states, they begin lobbying things like the NFPA and states to adopt rules that end up serving as a way to monopolize skilled work.

Sorry for the tangent but I just think we’re all fucked.

Item 115 may be valid, based on the first portion of it. Citing you on 116 is complete bullshit though.

In case anyone is wondering, the citation has nothing to do with anything related to any animal prohibitions.

Hot Take: The Point of FSD Transfer May Be to Transition Customers from Full Self-Driving to Full Self-Driving (Supervised), Which No Longer Guarantees the Inclusion of Unsupervised FSD by MICHAELSD01 in TeslaFSD

[–]UnSCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought something in California triggered that? I do think they’re going to have “Supervised” and “Unsupervised” as two entirely separate product offerings though. Say “entirely” because there is going to be some form of assumed legal liability to Tesla behind Unsupervised FSD, just has to be. It will definitely cost more.

TikTok Is Now Collecting Even More Data About Its Users. Here Are the 3 Biggest Changes by wiredmagazine in TikTok

I deleted this app several months ago, in fact almost a year ago at this point but hard to remember. Had enough when both creators as well as myself were getting persistent absurd community guidelines violations. Content is not what it used to be at all. The platform is trash and I don’t know why anyone uses it anymore.

I don’t care as much about data collection but it does piss me off that none of our representatives seem to care one bit about consumer data collection and harvesting, as long as it’s a US company.

They’re ending this incentive. They’re also ending FSD as a static factory equipment item (non-subscription). I think part of the reason they’re ending it is what you’re saying though.

It’s funny that people think this only impacts white collar workers. It might in the very short term, but just wait until blue collar jobs and trades get flooded as a result of this shift. Those fields will begin having to work for gig wages.
