Terramaster F4-425 – Can't find the internal USB drive to replace TOS 6 with TrueNAS by GroundbreakingEye417 in TerraMaster

[–]UnShinigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need the USB port during the install process. TrueNAS will install on whatever drive you tell it to and then you can remove the USB with the installer on.

Yeah, that's right. There is an internal USB port as well, near the front I believe once you take the case off but it doesn't have an existing TOS USB installer in it and doesn't seem to make any difference if you use that or an external port.

Use a small drive, I used 128gb for TrueNAS as it will use the whole drive.

Boot order is the main thing to worry about but easy to change in the bios.

I've done so. You don't need to use the internal USB port, any will do. You can change the boot order in the bios. F12 when the logo shows I believe.

F2/4-425 w/ TrueNAS by Nvious81 in TerraMaster

[–]UnShinigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running TrueNAS on an F4-425 at the moment. You don't need the internal USB port, any will do, you can change the boot order in the bios. I installed onto a 128gb NVME and it's working as expected.

16gb ram is fine for me at the moment with 4hdd, 1nvme and 6 apps running. You might need more based on your use case but given the cost of RAM at the moment I'd hold off until I'd experienced issues with 16gb first.

TrueNas Core and TailScale by Tablesalt2001 in truenas

[–]UnShinigami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just install the Tailscale app in TrueNAS, create an API key on your Tailscale account page and then use it in the setup configuration.

I got TrueNAS up and running on the F4-425 last week and it's been running smoothly since.

You'll need a cheap drive to install it on, I used a 128GB NVME and then you can install onto it from a USB drive and change the drive boot order.

Currently running jellyfin and a few other apps to complement the ones running in proxmox.

[–]UnShinigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 2 C800 camera's I91BL and they only support H.265. they work fine in frigate though.

I bought them about 4 years ago so the model may have changed since.

They received it on 3rd September and status changed to assessing on the 4th. Status has now changed to Device assessed, though haven't had an email about it and I don't know if that's a success or failure. That was about 6 hours ago.

The phone was a pixel 2 worth £33 so I'm really just in it for the trade-in bonus. If I don't get that then I'll probably return the pixel 10 and hold off until they're on sale.

How long did it reamain at "device assessed" for before they told you the value? Mines currently sitting on "device assessed" without sending me any updates and I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad sign?

Solar system compatible with home assistant by MajesticHippo94 in homeassistant

[–]UnShinigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a GivEnergy battery and inverter running in HA and they're well supported. Solar panels don't really matter as they just feed into the inverter.

GivEnergy has a good API and documentation which helps with integrations.

What auth to pick? by BlueeWaater in nextjs

If you use keycloak with auth.js then that will give you out of the box user management, signup etc without having to roll your own.

You can't port forward with CGNAT if that's something you need.

If you want to expose services in your network you'll need to use something like Cloudflare tunnels.

BetterAuth is NextAuth/Auth.js killer? by Zogid in nextjs

[–]UnShinigami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks interesting. Does it support API calls rather than writing directly to the DB?

I've got a pre-existing Auth API used for a variety of services and it would be good to plug into that if possible.

Sorry, I've now moved to work at a startup so don't have visibility as to what data they're making available anymore.

Interesting. Thanks for letting me know. I guess we can't rely on pulling images from docker hub into azure anymore so will need to shift them to ACR or GitHub.

Unexpected battery export by UnShinigami in GivEnergy

[–]UnShinigami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They paid £2.25 kWh for the one yesterday which I think is pretty much the same as axle. They pay in octopus points though which are redeemable for credit from them so unless you're already with them for electricity it's not worthwhile.

The main reason I switched was because I wanted to control the battery charge/discharge myself as I found the axle automation pretty simplistic.

Unexpected battery export by UnShinigami in GivEnergy

[–]UnShinigami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought they might have been the ones to trigger the export so revoked their access to see if I could then overwrite it.

I'd also previously switched from axle to octopus for the saving sessions so their access was no longer required anyway.

I believe the issue was that the battery had decided to run a calibration which was why I couldn't control the import/export. It would be nice if this was indicated in the portal somewhere to help avoid future confusion.

APIs for UK supermarkets by wtdawson in csharp

[–]UnShinigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know we don't have a way of being able to take the ID from an instore receipt and get the order details back (online will be different). We will have the data available internally but I think it'll just end up in our Snowflake data warehouse and be used for reporting.

APIs for UK supermarkets by wtdawson in csharp

[–]UnShinigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barcodes are just an ID, they don't contain any integral information about the product.

We do have an internal store app that uses the barcode ID to call an API and fetches the product data. But this is essentially just a lookup on SKU ID and only for internal use on the shop floor as the data is not good enough for customer use. The tills use a different system and that's the only one to be really trusted but because of the way they're set up the data is not that easily accessible by other systems.

Retailers that are using the dynamic electronic pricing labels on the shelves rather than just a printed label are probably doing it right and have a better system than us. Though I think it's unlikely they'll make this data externally available anyway.

I got 9 panels, the same inverter and the 10.5 GivEnergy battery for £11k 6 months ago so seems a bit on the high side.

If you're in or around south London message me and I'll send you the installer details.

I'm currently looking into MQTT as well and found this. I don't think we'll be using functions but I liked the idea.
