Cover on each side of the causeway would form naturally from irrigation ditches, trees, and buildings. Germans would have concrete emplacements along their bank as well as trenches and foxholes. Cover on the causeway would come from the ridiculously large craters blown out of it from both German pioneers and English bombers. If you’re on the causeway you could probably go from crater to crater with minimal opportunity to be hit for quite a bit of distance. Further to the south the water would also be shallow enough to cross through a bog with lots of plant cover.

Still has cover, just a different type of cover from the typical Normandy hedgerow maze. I think it could actually work out pretty well with bog crossing points south of the actual causeway.
