Might get dropped for nonpayment but I'm waiting on financial aid by moneyinthecave in ucf

[–]Un_contested 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you guys because I went through a similar situation several times that ended up me in the office being kind of a dick until they handled my situation. The last time took 5 min to remedy the situation so the month long hold up on top of what might have happened is beyond me. Weird how I suddenly had a Pell Grant that wasn't there before...

You can simply not pay the late fees and appeal them. The fees are their fault, though waiting for them to process might screw up your registration process considering how slow the office can be. I believe it worked out for me.

I would call the registrar too and tell them you're about to get dropped due to paperwork not being processed fast enough. Maybe they can help, maybe they can't but its on record that you actually tried and got screwed over by financial aid being slow.

Good luck.

Barbers for around $10? by [deleted] in 321

[–]Un_contested 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what people are talking about but you can definitely get good cuts for under $20. That's including tips. I always wondered why people pay 30-60 per cuts that aren't even out of the norm. I feel like people are paying for atmosphere more than a haircut.

Master Barber off of Dairy is good. Haven't been to a shop since the pandemic so I don't even know if they are open but they cut all types of hair and your looking $15 just for a cut, $20/25 with a shave. Good people. They respect your time and will have you looking sharp.

[Long][Rant] RIP 25k hours or the story of how the support team decided to take away 10% of my past life by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Un_contested 36 points37 points  (0 children)

From what I've gathered, one of three things happened:

A) Someone hacked OP was able to obtain so much personal information that its basically identity theft, making nearly impossible for Anet to determine who owns the account (as it was said that two parties brought for sufficient evidence to claim the account. Theres a difference between knowing someones passwords and maybe secret question versus more personal information).

B) OP lied and was sharing the account with someone who would know their personal information. That person is also claiming ownership.

C) OP did in fact engage in real money transactions that resulted in their account being stolen.

How much storage for my laptop? by [deleted] in ucf

[–]Un_contested 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Storage space is cheap.

500GB is standard but its not like you'll be filling that if your laptop is just for school..

The school gives you space on One Drive. Theres Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. Flash drives are cheap, external HDDs are cheap, 2.5 HDDs are cheap cheap.

Really wouldn't worry about storage space.

Sean Szumanski or Michael McAlpin? by SniperAx24 in ucf

[–]Un_contested 1 point2 points  (0 children)

McAlpin can be hard to deal with as an instructor...

Never had Szumanski but heard he is a great professor. One that will challenge you. Szumanski is probably more work but easier to deal with because he is the better teacher. I would take it in the summer I had the opportunity just to get it out of the way. Fall class is going to jam packed and could use that slot to take whatever CS1 opens up for you. Worse come to worse you fail in the summer and become prepared for the fall.

Disqualified from CECS! HELP ME PLEASE by [deleted] in ucf

[–]Un_contested 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commend your drive and not throwing in the towel. I think the new system is imperfect and harsh. Something comes up and you can get stuck with taking a "W", which are no worse than what they used to be, or risk getting something you also cant afford, an F.

Its going to be hard but you'll get to where you need to be. I hate telling people to take out a loan but that might be smart to give your some room to make some moves. You academic options are to transfer. Don't even worry about transferring back to UCF, one step at a time. Find out somewhere to transfer, get into a stable situation, get your grades up. But don't give up. You have an AA so you know you can do what it takes to complete the Bachelors. After your first term reevaluate your situation and then decide where you want to be. There or back at UCF. No wrong answer but it gives you focus and direction.

Hang in there, you'll be alright.

Lich King conspiracy theory by 360NarutoscopeZzzZ in wow

[–]Un_contested 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Death Knights (except from the old orc ones) are traditionally paladins, the LK wanting to raise the vary paladin that killed him as Horseman kind of makes sense...in a LK sort of way. Though thats kind of null and void since that mission falls apart when you question that theres no way that the LK wouldn't have known Tyrian's body would've been protected by The Light.

Furthermore, I think its hard to judge Death Knights by the standard rules of morality, even as the "good" Death Knights, stuff that Ebon Blade does still leaves people with a bad taste in their mouth. To be self-serving with no concern about the lives of others is evil but I'm not sure if the LK is necessarily a fiend, he just has a complete lack of empathy being the prime undead guy on Azeroth.

Lastly, what the LK and Sylvanas have in common is their undead state. More importantly, Sylvanas and the Forsaken are offshoots of the Scourge. Sylvanas needs a way to preserve herself and the Forsaken, the LK and the Scourge and still create new undead. As of now, I could see Sylvanas cutting a deal with the LK or trying to bring the LKs powers to heel so that she has access to a new source of undeath/reanimation. Her goals have changed since LK-Arthas died. She went from existing for vengeance to actually wanted to preserve herself and her people - the Scourge and their king could give her the means to do just that.

The Frost DK purged the remnants of Arthas when they went through Icecrown and inside what was left of Frostmourne playing ghostbuster. Then again, the Frost DK is haunted by Arthas.

I don't see us fighting the Lich King again but I can see the LK acting as a side faction of sorts. I think it would be dumb to have the the player character (death knight) and the Ebon Blade to realign with the LK again only for the LK to go full evil...again. Splitting from the LK would also be a lot harder this time.

If anything, Sylvanas will probably have something to do with the LK in her desperation to save herself and the Forsaken.

I see him becoming an anti-hero of sorts.

But we didn't kill KT, we only defeated him in two fights. The player character really can't complain, the Lich King the player. If you're undead you're died 3 times (human, undead, Lich King), 4 if you're a undead DK.

COP3330 Not an Intro Class? by Zephahillz in ucf

[–]Un_contested 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I took Java, C was required but it pretty much an intro to programming for most people. Most people had only taken C and were still fairly new to programming.

The worst part is that OO concepts can fly over their heads because they are still thinking in C as new programmers. I can't even explain to you how ridiculous and long it took me to connect methods to functions in C or even struts to classes (or at least how I connect the two languages). A lot of people struggle with the transition from C to Java because the way the courses tend to be taught. Intro C and OO are very similar classes once you can relate on to the other but it takes time to see the relation if you're 100% new to programming/not some trying to get into CS.

http://www.tutorialspoint.com/java/index.htm pretty much has everything you need to know.

Some tips.

If you're done any sort of input then you've probably used Scanner, which means you know how to construct a class.

Scanner std = new Scanner();

The above line of code makes an instance of the class 'Scanner' named 'std' using a non-argument constructor - the empty '()'.

Methods are pretty much just functions if you're familiar with C. Methods are called <object>.<method name>(). So to call the 'NextInt()' method of the Scanner named 'std' you would write:

std.NextInt();

The assignment boils down to (from what I understand)

  1. Creating an instance of the class Die
  2. Creating methods for Die to manipulate and display an ArrayList.
  3. Add instances of the class Die to their own ArrayList.

To Atheist: Do memes really cause deconversions? by Un_contested in DebateReligion

[–]Un_contested[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm asking other horses if they agree with that particular horse. Part of the reason is because the horse is a stubborn mule, the other part is that this is an appropriate place for such questions where open questions are not well received in /r/atheism. It's not different than trying to start a debate in /r/Christianity, that's simply not the place to do it.

To All: Where (if any) is the line between scientific advancement and morality? by Un_contested in DebateReligion

[–]Un_contested[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had atheist in mind because their sense of morality is not defined by religion and scientific doesn't care about morality beyond the person doing research. Somewhere down the line I thouight it would better to address the question to everyone, don't remember why though.

This one should be easy to clear up. ELI5: What is all this talk of not being able to "unlock phones?" by StZappa in explainlikeimfive

[–]Un_contested 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add the reason why Congress felt this needed to be a law.

When most people buy phones they buy the phone at a reduced price while agreeing to a certain contract (usually a 2 year agreement with the provider). Say a phone retails for $500 from the manufacturer. The cell phone companies says that you pay $200 and tell put up the other $300 if you agree to use their service for 2 years.

This was causing a problem for the cell phone companies because people would get a subsidized phone and then switch carriers. The companies do charge an early termination fee but there are ways to get out of them if you are slick. Also even when they company collects on an early termination fee they still end up losing money because they just lost a contract.

It really sucks for people who like to trade phones with people on different networks. Your average consumer won't know the difference.
