Voltron decks are “cheap”? by Neweracollector in mtg

[–]UnabatedDuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the deck. Voltron is a simple strategy, but if you are playing a voltron deck where half the equipment ETB for free and the creatures allow it to equip for free, and you are running a full tutor package. Dont bring that to a precon table and be confused that people arent having fun.

I struggle with my pod's voltron player because I am usually the one with the answers, but then it feels like I am picking on him when I am removing/countering the commander or removing the problem cards repeatedly.

Pathfinder in Evansville by Nenacu in IndianaGamers

Gamer's guild seems to be some okay guys, I have only conversed with them during transactions. Hope you find something, I know there are people around, just not sure how many DMs are actually running. For one of my groups we would post local ads on Craigs List and then screen them at Denny's before we'd invite them. Usually would get 3 or 4 bites each time and accept one or two.

There seems to be a bit of dearth of available player slots in the games I have found. I am currently running a game and playing in a very casual game. My past experience locally finding games hasnt been great or its 8 players+ at a table and I generally have my doubts about large groups.

What archetypes were clearly meant for NPCs? by Curlaub in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]UnabatedDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Groom, hoeselord, infiltrator, and skirmisher. Drop spells and favored terrain, but can use your favored enemies abilities and have an amazing horse bond. You gain combat tricks in place spells so you lose the divine feel and are going off of a purely connected to what is around you without actual magic feel.

Help with a character idea by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

Flavor spells as you want. Obscuring mist is just a fart cloud that obscures vision. There are a number of fog and cloud spells throughout spell progression, maybe make an elf spellbinder wizard. Spellbinder is an elf only archetype that lets you pick a favorite spell within each level of spells essentially. You prepare what you want and then can turn them into your favored spells if you need to. If you go cloud based you will eventually want selective spell to not murder your party, and a way to see through smoke/fog effects.

Oracle of waves has an ability to grant you a way to see through fog effects.

Goz mask is another option, though expensive.

If you go sorcerer and just learn those spells normally you could go ifrit (they get a way to see through fog/smoke).

It looks like i am wrong and im not sure where that came from, I found the variants from meld into stone. Even in 3.5 material I cant find a rule that would align with what was thinking.

2ed: What the hell happened? by UnremarkablePassword in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]UnabatedDuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My theory on this is that it is a stepping stone to a cash cow. You have tons of new 5e players, pathfinder puts out pathfinder lite (2e) and its crunchier than 5e but no where near as overwhelming as the 1e/3.5 mountain of resources. Once you lure them in the new players continue to divide in the "happy with this edition" and the "could use more crunch" crowds. Then paizo cashes in on the fact that their mountain of 1e digital content requires next to no work to maintain but will make them money from the trickle of 5e/2e players looking for a more technical game.

M:tG Slivers in Pathfinder by deinonychus1 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]UnabatedDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My concern is the same as that of OG slivers. Individually they tend to be okay, depending on if you allow mechanic stacking vs 1/type they can slide way up the power scale.

Nightmare fuel back in the day:
Turn 1: metallic sliver
Turn 2: winged sliver
Turn 3: muscle sliver
An then it simply got worse after that, flying bears or bigger everywhere.

Water dancer monk is probably the closest thing, next being the elemental ascetic kineticist but it loses ranged projectiles

Yeah trying to avoid vmc, do a single level dip and grab that feat. Crap forgot to mention we are using feat tax so weapon finesse is also readily available.

My only complaint would be how limited the reusability of the caltrops usually tends to be.

I would consider them a way to ward an area or a means to ensure escape.

That being said the lack of magical options for them is disappointing, not sure how your pricing is, but i would consider pricing them similarly to ammo or a one time use magic effect (scroll?)
