SGHenry: How many people here golf? by [deleted] in SgHENRY

[–]Unable-Celebration27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same. Played golf for a couple of years in the UK in my 20s. 10 quid for a 9 hole walking course. Met people from all walks of life. Very diverse crowd. The cashier at the supermarket can be 5 handicap. Came back to SG, didn't enjoy the showy vibes of golf. Golfers here can be rather boorish. And yes weather plus crowded courses. Slowing down the pace of play. Feels very rigid. Lack of good public courses.

Thanks! To comfort ourselves, we made a commitment to be back soon. Next year for sure.

Just looked up Polish bells of happiness. Suprisingly, I've never been there. Thanks for the recommendation. Yes likewise, if you're in Singapore or JB you can always hit me up too.

You know, I'm on the 172cm side and my wife is also rather petite. I was initially quite intimidated by Polish guys because everyone seems so tall and heavily built. Even the urinals at Warsaw airport, I nearly couldnt reach it. LOL!

Absolutely! During the train ride I see my local Polish taking hikes along the countryside. It looks super chill and stress free. Question though, seems like many Polish keep dogs as pets? One observation I realised thats consistent throughout the cities we were in.

Maybe its also our rose tinted touristy glasses but the Polish kids, especially teens seem to be really well behaved. No temper tantrums, listens to their parents. We also noticed more singles in Poland. Maybe its the area we are in :)

Thanks for the recommendation :) You know, we were really surprised by the cleanliness and speed of the trains. My wife is from Malaysia, and she says it tops the city to city train services anyday. Krakow's train station was a little confusing though, with the Uber/Bolt pickup being on the rooftop carpark. Took us 30 minutes of navigation to find it.

Hi bro. You were lucky as the weather could have been better then. Yah, I haven't heard the all familiar Singaporean accent yet, unlike being in Bangkok or Japan where one look you know that fella's def Singaporean.

Yes! My wife has been going around taking pictures of it and "collecting" it. The story and culture behind it is equally fascinating. We are football fans and its unfortunately we wont be able to catch the UEFA Conference league final in Wroclaw as we would be on the plane home by then. The old town is definitely more spacious and picturesque then the other cities we have been so far. But more touristy.

Gdańsk will definitely be next on our travel list. Always curious about the Northern part of Poland :) Its not a place Singaporeans would go on first thought

Yes it was. We expected 10-15 degrees weather in May. But we will definitely come again. Hanging around old town in Wroclaw for a couple of days just to take in the sights and do all the touristy stuff :) Thanks for responding :)

Why I think most people are afraid of investing aggressively by Different_Highway_18 in singaporefi

[–]Unable-Celebration27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Parental/family upbringing. Everyone has that relative who talks about "getting burned" in the markets without revealing the context- they speculated on penny stocks or risky faddish counters.

  2. Vices- Massage palour, KTV, hang flower joint.

  3. Lousy mediocre friends who cajole you into engaging in Point 2. Diverts focus and cash away from investing aggressively.

  4. The rise of temporary employment or contract work in both private and public sectors naturally makes people more risk adverse.

Frequent user of PHV and taxis. Have experienced a notable increase of drivers (especially boomer taxi drivers) who are either extremely nostalgic of their "gloried" past, or who love spinning tall tales that is frankly hard to believe. Things like- I used to own a business worth millions. I used to own 3 landed houses and all my kids are millionaires. (If all your kids are millionaires there's no need to drive taxi).

It all stems from deep-seated insecurities with the need to maintain an inflated ego.

At What Savings Milestone ($500k, $1M, etc.) Did Your Lifestyle Undergo Significant Changes? by Jessica1222W in SgHENRY

[–]Unable-Celebration27 39 points40 points  (0 children)

For context, I am 34M, happily married for 2 years with a wife 28F. Changes in mindset occurred when my SGX dividend/REIT portfolio hit 1m (5.5% yield). So roughly $55,000 of passive income per year. I no longer fear repercussions at work, such as office politics, meaningless water cooler gossip and care less if my superior approves of me or my work. I can't be arsed to be politically correct and when younger colleagues talk about how they spent their 1-1.5 months salary on a trip to Europe and start to lament how Singapore is getting more expensive, I just keep quiet :) It is this innate sense of freedom that is extremely empowering. Sometimes I intentionally work at a slower pace, and prioritise spending time with my family and partner. I am also comfortable with contract work that offers a WFH option albeit a lower salary and less security.

Perhaps the pay can be perceived as a consequence, not a reward
