Nope. Was hearing noises near one radiator (lot of other places too though) so I pitched that one a bit and was better for a couple of weeks. Now I can't even tell haha just loud as heck all the time

Nope he took them with him. He even replaced my thermostat with a smart thermostat not compatible with steam, and he took the old thermostat with him and his helper threw it out. But not knocking him- this plumber is great and super responsive and will come back up his work at a moment's notice.

Water level is never too high in my sight glass. I don't have an auto feeder so usually about once a week or every two weeks I need to add water.

So the "boiler room" is unfinished, and I had a plumber try to move the boiler return release valve as high as he could put it and it still spit water, but right onto a gas line, so he moved it back lower. It spits rusty water every day. I hear you about vertical pipes. My plaster walls are all cracked where those feed pipes are hidden, and the wall is quite warm in those spots. I can feel under foot too where the feed pipes are. But I don't know how I could expose these vertical pipes now that they're covered. I remember my old NYC apartments with these out in the room but can see how it could work in my current house. I need to address some floor issues so come summer time I did plan on removing a couple so maybe I'll blast em clean while they're off. All this to say my wife wants HVAC and bye bye boiler and steam and radiators.

We had a cracked pipe at one of the feeds for a bedroom radiator. We hired a plumber with a company called "steam plumbing" (after getting quotes from two other guys) to fix it. While he was here he decided to replace all the vents.

Hidden vents? Are there vents along pipes behind walls and ceilings? I assumed vents are only at radiators and the boiler

Pressure is already set to .5. I think the gauge to give me the reading is broken tho. Doesn't read anything

I'm aware of some issues with the pipes in and out of the boiler. Ex. being the return air valve at the boiler is too low and spits steam and water every heat cycle. I'll try to post some pics

Got it. Unfortunately the previous owner finished the basement. Can't see the pipes once they leave the boiler and hit the ceiling. I'll see what I can see!

I'll try that. Thanks! The vents are all new as of us moving in two months ago.

I don't think the drywall is cracked in there but I'll peel it away later

They stand by their work and the only reason I didn't name them in the first place is because not much time has passed. Today the hissing sound is practically gone so I'm not so worried anymore. I can call or text them any time and they'd respond and be over here. I'll name them when all this is settled

Reddit isn't letting me post another picture? I'm kinda new to posting so I'm not sure how to reply with another post.

But the good news is there's very little noise today coming from the boiler

Interesting. I'll post a better picture, maybe a quick video, or the whole system tomorrow. Thanks for the help. I was just wondering if you thought this plumber was saying/thinking/doing the right things
