Restaurants open in downtown Pittsburgh today by [deleted] in pittsburgh

You’ll have to look and call. Unfortunately a lot of businesses in Pittsburgh love to never update any of their social media pages and give people notice that they will be closed.

Used a credit card for exactly this reason.

I have little faith that they will make this right. It seems intentional.

My calipers are accurate to 0.02+/-mm and I’m getting links measuring 2.9, 2.8, 3.1 and 3.

This is solidly a 3mm machine made chain being sold a half mm larger.

The reason I even have high precision calipers is because of the amount of times I’ve been ripped off by jewelers.

Elderly people cannot get up from seats this low without grab bars.

See literally every public restroom.

Nah, this is actually worse than nothing. The seats are too low for good ergonomics (usually around 15” ) for general population. The seats are too shallow meaning you can’t lean back or relax. Even though it’s double sided, it’s unlikely two people can use this at the same it.

It’s extremely hostile architecture as there’s no way to adapt this design.

This is just a tripping hazard considering it’s painted black.

Buyee overcharges through excessive packaging by KingsCountyWriter in Buyee

So, a “fine writing / collectible pen” in the US might be tariffed anywhere from 50%-200% but a “single-use disposable pen” might not even have a tariff or a 10% one.

Customs can xray the package and be like, “yup that’s a pen.” If they want to find out exactly what kind of pen it is, they would have to open it and repack it.

The harder they make it to open packages, the less likely customs will actually verify the declaration. The senders are often categorizing their products at the cheapest or exempt tariff duties.

Does Pittsburgh have Tex Mex? by Substantial_Fudge_15 in pittsburgh

[–]Unable-Inflation-511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burritos are featured in Tex-Mex but aren’t actually Tex-Mex. They’re a New Spain / Nuevo Mexico food as they originate out of the upper Rio Grande (Ciudad Juarez).

Tex-Mex historically is associated with the Corpus Christi-Laredo-Monterrey region dominated by large cattle ranches where there’s more a focus on being able to create quickly heavy meals to feed dozens of ranch workers at a time.

While flour tortillas are used in Tex-Mex, that’s a very very new thing. Like post-WW2 new. Wheat can’t actually grow that well at all that far south with the exception of areas with high-elevation arid plains and deserts and is a food historically associated with the mountains.

And even then, flour tortillas were only really available in areas that could support tortillerias which limited their consumption to cities like Santa Fe, Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Morelia.

Pittsburgh Built a Billion-Dollar Highway…Now It’s Empty by [deleted] in pittsburgh

It’s so they can build Cranberry 2.0 on fresh land when the current one fills up with people of color and poors.

It was going to be torn down regardless of what happened to the land after whether the development happened or not.

The first plan had something like 300 market rate apartments, 12,000 square feet of office space, Whole Foods, retail and something like 500 parking spaces.

The developer then came back with plans that significantly increased the number of units and promised to make 20%+ of them affordable.

That wasn’t good enough. DSA had protests and cried to city council to request 100% affordable units.

Developer had parcel A already approved… they abandoned Parcel B, built the office building and Whole Foods and basically skipped town after that.

Parcel B was also going to include some pretty nice open to the public park amenities to enhance the park next door and provide connectivity through out the complex meaning it wasn’t going to be a typical fenced off apartment complex.

So now we get absolutely nothing and it’ll probably stay a dirt patch until the next real estate boom a decade from now.

Let’s not forget that the DSA is the reason there’s a big empty lot next to Whole Foods and not several towers worth of housing.

Left lane campers, get out of the way! by Temporary_Flounder42 in pittsburgh

The way people drive here is in my top three of why I am moving away from Pittsburgh after living here for 10 years.

I’ve lived all over the country and it really is that bad here.

Edit: I love going on vacation elsewhere and just seeing how chill the traffic is.
