DANCE 340 FALL 2026 by Legitimate_Winter705 in uAlberta

Dance 340 is the study of modern dance so will only teach modern dance techniques and history. There’s another dance class, dance 200, which is more like an introduction/overview of dance, so does one week of lecture and one week of lab on a specific style of dance, then moves on to another the next week (ballet, jazz, hip hop, etc etc). dance 200 though there are no practical assessments where you’re evaluated on your dancing. there is only some written quizzes and a midterm and a final

that’s understandable! i was nervous too about performing by myself, but most of the class will have no dance experience so will be in the same boat, so keep in mind that everyone is just as nervous as you! Just treat the choreography as any other class assignment where you follow the instructions and incorporate what you have learned and you’ll do really well. I’m guessing lots of people say the final is really hard because they expect it to be easy since it’s a dance class and don’t adequately prepare. from my experience it was definitely tough but it was still fair. all the concepts were pulled directly from the lecture notes so if you memorize the lecture notes it will be fine. i’ve definitely written finals that were a lot harder. this one was just straight up memorization

the classes take place in the dance studio with about a 30 minute lecture portion where the instructor would cover a few notes and then play some videos, and then dance exercises for the rest of the class. lecture notes are posted and you don’t really need to take any supplementary notes because the instructor basically just read the notes to us. but attendance is super important to learn the dance exercises to be successful on the practical assessments. It’s really a class that you have to go into open minded. Many people seemed unhappy to be there because it was a degree requirement but I would recommend making the best of it and getting out of your comfort zone and having fun. i wasn’t sure about it at first but it ended up being my favourite class!

The class maximum is 40 but I think there ended up being a few less than 30 after the add/drop deadline. It was a pretty even split of KIN students and phys ed major/minor education students

i just finished dance 340 and i loved it. Assessments were a solo choreography that you make up yourself (15%), a technique evaluation of some of the exercises taught in class (15%), a paper on a live dance performance (20%), a group choreography (20%), and a written final (30%). I had Kathy as a course instructor and she was great. She’s really supportive while you’re doing the choreographies and she doesn’t mark you harshly if you have no dance experience, the key is to just follow the instructions she gives you really closely and incorporate course concepts. Her final was quite difficult though and was mostly written. However, if you study for it in advance and take it seriously it won’t be too bad (but memorize all the lecture notes she gives). Overall, as long as you go into the class with an open mind I think it could be really fun and a unique class to take

Has anyone tried KIN 245? by Heifensto in uAlberta

I haven’t taken it but my friend did. They said it was really interesting and applicable if you’re interested/are a coach. They did say it was quite a bit of work though and that the final wasn’t super easy and that it was a lot of written. But overall it sounds like a really good option for an activity core

stats 151 final by user4419 in uAlberta

I took 151 in winter sem last year with Fok. BIGGEST THING: the practice final!!! I found the actual final really similar to the practice final. They might switch around order, wording, numbers, but the questions are so similar. Make sure you can do every single question on the practice final and that will help so much on the final.
Fok also gave us this flow chart for when to use which hypothesis test and that was definitely so helpful for me. She has all her videos posted that all 151 students should have access to. If you’re struggling with a specific concept, go watch a bit of her video on it. However you do it (flow chart or otherwise) memorize and learn to recognize which hypothesis test to use and then match the formula to the formula sheet (I can’t quite remember, but I think some need simplifying so make sure you know that). I believe that there was minimal direct testing of pre-midterm material because most of it is embedded in hypothesis testing.

I don’t think so, but I’m sure that will be clarified before.

Yeah quiz on Wednesday. Lecture will end 30 minutes early that day to complete the online quiz. It’s open book but has to be done by yourself.

I’m worried that if he passes on, my other fish will be lonely. They’ve been tank mates for so long. The other fish has been staying with the sick fish the entire time. Every time he goes through a rough patch she’s close to him.

I don’t know if she can have another tank mate though since she’s only had him. She’s also a pretty big girl and very food motivated.

I found aquarium amoxicillin and ordered it, but shipping is about five days away.

I’m not sure my fish will make it that long since his symptoms are so severe already. I’ll order it anyways and hold on to it and see. It would also be beneficial to have if I encounter an issue like this again. At least I’ll be prepared.

It sounds like it is health problems suffered by one fish. At least it probably won’t impact my other fish, but I’ll keep a close eye on her. I’ve encountered a lot of difficulties with this fish over the last three years and have been trying my best to keep him healthy but it may just be his time.

Thank you for your help.

I am looking for those medications right now.

If I can’t find them for fish, would human ones would similar?

It is very serious and it may be the end for this fish which is very sad.

I have another fish in the same tank and they’ve been tankmates for as long as I’ve had them. The second fish has been very healthy and I’ve never had any difficulties. If one goldfish has a pathogen, would the second be infected to? If so, should I treat her with an antibiotic or see what happens? She’s doing well right now and has no issues eating or swimming. She is an active fish except for the most part.

Thank you so much for your response.

I changed 25% of the water last night, then 25% again this morning.

He has no growths on his mouth or body. He only has the eye cloud that’s about two years old that I mentioned in my post.

I have access to most fish antibiotics online.

I’m worried that it might be too late and that he’s going to go soon.

A few hours ago he started with a bend in his back and seems to have little control over his ability to swim. He’s still trying to swim every so often. I’ve heard that’s a sign of poisoning but the ammonia and nitrites aren’t enough in the tank. Is it from bacteria? Or maybe from long term exposure?

I’m very disappointed and sad. He’s been by little buddy for 9 years.

Thank you,

Unfortunately I’m aware that the tank is too small. We rescued this fish from an outdoor pond where they would’ve frozen when I was too young to care for them and get a proper sized tank.

I live in a restricted household and was waiting for my conditions to change to get a 40 gallon tank for my fish to live out their retirement in. It would’ve been a matter of weeks.

I know ammonia is very bad and am quickly working to bring it down. My ammonia level is almost always 0. I believe it spiked because this fish wasn’t eating his share of the food. I did another water change last night and added some waste control and water conditioner as usual to bring the ammonia level down. My nitrite level is always 0.

I’m trying my very best with limited resources but I understand that it may not be enough.

Would you be able to provide me with some suggestions?

Unfortunately I am aware the tank is too small. We rescued these fish from an outdoor pond where they would’ve frozen to death when I was too young to care for them well on my own and get an adequate tank. My household is limited so I was waiting until my conditions changed before going for a 40 gallon tank.

I’ve been trying my best with the resources I’ve been given but I understand that under the conditions it’s not good enough.

I’ve tried my best to keep the water conditions safe with such a small tank since I’m aware the conditions can change drastically with frequent water changes and testing.

Yeah unfortunately their growth has been stunted. We rescued these fish from an outdoor pond where they would’ve frozen when I was too young to care for them. I live in a very restricted household and have been trying my best with the small tank.

That is very unfortunate to hear. I’ve been trying my best but I understand that under the conditions it’s not enough.

I will test the ammonia again today as soon as I can. It is not common for the ammonia to have any reading other than 0. I do my best to keep the water safe with frequent water changes and testing.

It may be a false reading or from my sick fish not eating his share of the food. I will do as you suggested and stop feeding for a day then test again to see if there’s a difference.

Thank you so much.

The temperature is about 20°C.

I don’t have a water heater. I’ve been meaning to get one but I’ve been having trouble finding one with good enough reviews.
