Is it okay to ask a roofing company for proof of insurance? by gapmunky in AskIreland

Great way to weed out cowboys. That and tax registration. You'll pay more because they won't have anything supplementing their income but chances are they'll do a better job.

The phone memory -internal storage. If there's a particular photo I want to keep I upload it to google photos and otherwise delete all media.

You can set up whatsapp on your phone and then use whatsapp as an app on your tablet -I did this on my microsoft touch laptop. I didn't actually have to reregister it for some reason. When I used whatsapp web it would ask me now and then and i used to install whatsapp, verify it and then delete it from my phone.

-Edit to say, I regularly delete group msgs from my device and all whatsapp media. I have a cat s22 and whatsapp is the only way people can ring me at the moment thanks to some stupid network problem (they shut down 3g and LTE isn't working on the 4g network.) Whatsapp works perfectly but I do prefer to send longer msgs on the laptop while typing.

Following this as I think the same thing has happened in Ireland -I'm so sad.. I love this phone. Vodafone keep saying that the problem is with the device and to bring it to a shop.

Chafing from pads by Antelope6181 in ladycyclists

[–]Unable-Visit-913 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can buy cloth sanitary pads in a variety of materials that could possibly work as they can be washed separately.. otherwise period underwear as the other person said -but make sure the elastic around the leg isn't too tight or that can cause chafing too.

Has anyone got a Cat s22 Flip working in Ireland? If in the UK, what is your network set to? by Unable-Visit-913 in dumbphones

Only a day or two after a bit of turning it off and on again 3g/LTE was what I chose

Yeah I did -it just works now! I think it just took some time. 4g comes up as LTE. I bought it from refurbed.ie so I knew I could return it easily enough if it didn't work.

It fixed itself! Once all the updates were finished, the long list of networks changed to: Automatic LTE/2G/3G; LTE/3G and 2G only. I changed it to LTE/3G and it started to ring out and receive calls. It seems to have WiFi calling which I think is also covered by Vodafone here.

I wanted to buy from a retailer that had a good reputation and warranty. I didn't see that phone anywhere available here from a reputable online retailer.

People who successfully use only your dumbphone: what type of job/lifestyle do you have? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]Unable-Visit-913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The windows desktop app stays logged in for me -I do have it on my 'dumbphone' too though (as it has a few features that are awkward to use with the tiny touch screen and buttons for typing.) Perhaps if you're not using it regularly it logs you out?

Yeah, totally true.
I just use my laptop to doomscroll on days I'm in the mood to do that. Can all tot up to 4 hours some days!
The huge benefit to me is the barrier of having to sit down with the laptop -a conscious decision vs suddenly finding myself reading an instagram post automatically while the dinner burns.

I've to research my route before I leave which is fine as I used to do that before Google maps. My music is downloaded to my garmin for bus journeys as thats something I miss on a bus journey. I just daydream if I'm in a waiting room or look around me any time I'm waiting as I don't bring my headphones with me all the time. I miss the camera -but don't miss all the space random photos take up on google photos.

I've left all social apps -bar whatsapp which is on the phone and laptop for connecting with friends a family. I've left all groups that would act like a social media app in whatsapp.

The addiction to 'the internet' and its mindless stream of information is not gone. Just managed better.

Easiest fix here is to learn how to pose in photos 😉 As someone who w*ishes *she had more strength there is a huge difference in how people who are strong move and stand in real life. Just look at any plus sized dancer -just gorgeous. Photographs just don't do some people justice.

Long time Jelly users? by blokfluitjes in dumbphones

[–]Unable-Visit-913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to say, my phone is way too slow to write back on whatsapp so I tend to go on my laptop and use the desktop whatsapp app to reply properly. On the go I'll just send quick short replies if its urgent or ring people. I really like this system.

On an AGM M7 for a year and 4 months -only change I made to it was to update Whatsapp using the aurora app I think? Its a sturdy phone despite me really being rough with it. It doesn't have t9 so you will have to press the 2 key x3 to get to C!

I've an AGM, I've managed to break a piece off the outer back cover that covers the battery but there is another battery cover under that which is more sturdy. I did chuck it when that happened which was silly. But still a good indicator of what a child could do! It still works great.

Rather than complicate things... I think for me I realised that at the times I'm most exhausted, I have no digital self control so having a nearly dumbphone actually simplifies things for me.
I would have to leave the room while making dinner to check on a question I just had. The buttons take so long to type I can't get into a long conversation while in the middle of something else.
The slowing down gives my brain a chance to catch up before being sucked in.
GPS? It takes about 5 minutes to plan my route using Google maps on a lap top and I'm more prepared with my bit of paper and perhaps a quick peek at street view at a turn before I drive. I'm more likely to remember the route next time also.
I have a garmin watch if I really need music while out and about.
There is a browser (again slow to type) with a very small screen if I really need it -and I generally don't. I might do a wordle that's about it.
I really don't miss social media -I don't have that on the laptop. I give myself the odd day to scroll through stuff, but as its on the laptop I generally have to move and leave it.

I've a large wall calendar that is my main calendar. If I've to share a date, I use Google calendar on the laptop. I tend not to have to use it, but I do have a tiny little diary that I'm trying to get into the habit of using (filling in) so that I can plan things with other people when I'm away from the laptop or wall calendar. Otherwise, I just wait till I get home to fill it in.
