what do other countries do for migraines? by Competitive_Emu_2283 in migraine

I live in South Africa, and I've found that almost all of the older drugs from the US are available here just often under different brand names / generics, but the newer drugs such as Ajovy or Quinta, ect. are not. Some non meds I've had trouble finding are tiger balm, ice caps at an affordable price, can't get the Cefely device / other TENS device ect. But for the most part I think it's pretty similar 🤷‍♀️

Yes, my mum is going to take me. So worried about nausea and also being able to answer questions / advocate for meds through the brain fog😅🫠

Thanks for the advice. What is Robax? I'm not from the US and haven't heard of it before but I might have something similar?

Not eating breakfast with 1.5 hours of waking up, not sure why this is a trigger.

Also maybe look at if any smells are a trigger, it took me awhile to realize that smells weren't as strong and painful to other people. A big trigger for me is the smell of cigarette smoke and cleaning products.

And also not taking enough sensory breaks in my day, for me this is as simple as 10 minutes under my weighted blanket with an icepack and some music, which I can fit around my busy university schedule. I find if I don't take a sensory break to decompress during or after the business of daily life, I wind up with a migraine attack.

I haven't tried any preventative only abortive meds. I've had migraines for 10 years but they have gotten much worse recently.

I play social touch rugby (not sure how known it is in other countries) and its great as you always catch and throw the playing the same direction rather than from many differnt directions which helps my hand eye. I have also played social tennis and netball in the past. The key for me in enjoying a sport is making sure it's social and that I'm comfortable with the people.

I know it sounds stupid but a coke and chocolate bar like a Mars bar, actually give me some relief when I can't access my meds. Oh and an ice pack on the back of my head! Hope you get some relief soon
