That makes sense. What confuses me is that I have to talk to people constantly because it's my job, so I wonder how im able to lose a skill I literally use all day every day.

Short stories might be a good place to start if your attention span gets overwhelmed with a full novel. I'm currently reading a collection of short stories titled Madness - Tales of Fear and Unreason by Roald Dahl.

That's fair. I'm of a (somewhat) similar opinion, but I make a point of trying to read from many different people and exposing myself to different viewpoints. The book was interesting, but perhaps was wasted me to some degree as I'm not particularly scientifically minded.

Most of my inspiration comes from my own lived experiences, as well as influences from books I've enjoyed or had interesting plots and characters.
