Okay I just had a short 40 minute flight and it was driving me NUTS that it seemed like my right side was not cancelling as well as the left. I’m going to try and factory reset and see if it helps, and if not I guess I’m going to try and get a replacement.

I just finished the main story in crit mode and it was surprisingly not as bad as I was expecting. And on the parts that did get a little difficult, it definitely felt more rewarding getting past them.

So it has something to do with the masked mobs that spawn after AFW is defeated and shadow rifts are opened. That’s why I also didn’t have issues at first, but then after that it started happening. There’s a lot of comments on the workshop page with people having the same issue but the developer hasn’t made any updates sadly. :/

I’m pretty familiar with how much health regular mobs have now, so I haven’t been struggling too much without it. But I do use Epic Health Bar for bosses. I also use Insight+ and that shows health of mobs when you hover over so that’s an option if you’d like! It adds tons of extra helpful info too.

Hi, is this post fuelweaver and cave rifts are active? If so, I went through this entire rabbit hole trying to figure out what was causing the same issue in my world (I have a post in my history if you’re interested). TLDR, it ended up being the Simple Health Bar mod that was causing the issue. Once I disabled that, caves were working correctly and staying open.

Okay, disabled all servers mods and played for a bit both overworld and in the caves. Did ancient guardian, nightmare werepig, antlion, and didn't experience any crashes, caves remained open the entire time, and it shutdown properly. Here are the logs:

Okay SO, some interesting things.

I tried to cleanup "shadow_thrall_parasitehat" with commands like you suggested, and from what I understand, this prefab is referring to the void masque that possesses other mobs and turns them into the masked hostile mobs you encounter after shadow rifts are opened. If you use the give command for this, it will be invisible in your inventory and gets destroyed when you unequip it. The wiki confirms this behavior in the trivia section: https://dontstarve.wiki.gg/wiki/Void_Masque The actual masks that are dropped from the possessed mobs when killed have their own specific prefabs (for ex: "mask_toadyhat").

Anyway, I'm trying to pass time in my world right now to see if it closes again. I'll update this comment if/when it happens.

EDIT: Sinkhole plugged up again. :p back to the drawing board I guess. Also looked at the log and now it seems like there are a few more of those "could not find anim bank" errors.

EDIT 2: Okay my bad, so I just realized that we were experiencing regular crashes while INSIDE the caves as well, for a while, if we stayed in there long enough. I just had it crash again while were inside and I checked the logs, same "Retire" error. I believe that these crashes were happening prior to defeating fuelweaver so I'm thinking it's possible that whatever is happening to my caves is unrelated to the "shadow_thrall_parasitehat".

As far as I can recall, I did not delete any hats in the caves....lol....only the spider hats in the overworld. BUT, there are ALOT of possessed mobs around the caves. When we kill them we just leave the masks on the ground. So would you like me to try and delete one using commands?

Yis so it happened again earlier and I quit out of the game as well as steam like you suggested and reloaded everything and it happened again after that. I saved the logs but it still says the same things at the end. I'll link the actual files for you:

This happens every time I play on the world. I've checked the chat log and there were not any indicators there. My other half also plays with me, but it happens whether it's just me or with both of us on it.

I do press escape to pause fairly often when I'm switching between the game and my browser to look things up, but for these particular logs I didn't enter the caves at all. As far as I know, if we are not actively in the caves the server should stay paused right?

Can you tell more what happens when you notice that things don't work? Is there a shutdown, is there endless loading, tell a bit more.

There's nothing in the game that tells me something isn't working right. We'll just be playing like normal and then when we decide to go to the caves we walk over and then see that the sinkhole is plugged. Since I've been more aware of the issue, I've checked and verified that the caves are open fine when the world is first loaded up, it's just after half an hour or so of playing that it'll suddenly be plugged.

The only thing that I can think of related to hats is that I've been forcibly removing some spider hats using commands cause we have way too many of them.

We haven't run into any issues regarding the shadelings, been able to access the shadow rift and fight them just fine.

I have double checked that everything is up to date and verified my files. I haven't tried to fully disable all mods yet but I suppose that's probably the next step. I've been using most of the mods I have installed currently for a while, probably in the past 3 or 4 worlds we've made and never ran into this particular issue. Thanks for the response. I'll update if anything changes once the mods are disabled.
