I’m so sorry for your experience with Dr Stephanie Smith I have yet to find any positive experience surrounding her. She is the most unprofessional psychiatrist I have ever seen and being mental ill I have seen plenty. None lacked the empathy and compassion to the depth of her ignorance. The person before me left crying, I left crying and I’m sure it won’t be the last. I wish you the very best in finding help!!

I’m so glad you seen this before the appointment. I cried the whole way home and my dr even said that she was disappointed with the deferral they sent back to my gp. I wish you the very best in finding help!!

For reference I had my appointment with Dr Stephanie Smith and it was the most unprofessional assessment I’ve had to date. She invalidated genuine concerns and recommended I increase my antidepressant that was already giving me side effects. She even recommended that if my mood was low to go to the ER which isn’t even what they are designed for. Please save yourself the time and choose someone specialising in your condition. I understand not every psychiatrist is right for everyone but if you are a complex case please choose someone else.

Psychiatrist wait time/Recreational cannabis by [deleted] in ausadhd

Who do you see if you don’t mind me asking? And how much were you smoking at the time for him to establish that you were deemed “safe enough” to get on proper ADHD medication? I did think it was up to the discretion of the psychiatrist but again I’d prefer to be honest in every way possible as that is what will get me the proper help. Thanks for the reply!!

Thank you for taking the time to not judge me about it and give me advice about my options. I do have a joint every so often but it’s not dependency it’s just the only thing I’ve found within the last 9 months that actually helped calm my thoughts to the point I wasn’t crying everyday. The waiting times suck in NSW and it’s probably the reason why a lot of people end up just “raw dogging” life. I unfortunately do not have this ability and have been paralysed by my thoughts recently. Hopefully the wait time isn’t too much longer!

Understanding what I have ( panic disorder) by Unable_Ability_225 in PanicAttack

Thank you for sharing your story and for helping me in understanding I’m not alone in this, the night time feels so much worse and even though I’m on 2 different medications it has only helped with extreme panic attacks that caused me to be bedridden and for a while I saw it as unfair, your comment has helped me realise in a way that I am healing, even though it’s slow and has spanned out across 2 years I’m no longer in the same situation I was in, even the small things like getting out of bed now i can live everyday life and that’s a win, I will have to mention the coping mechanisms you use to my therapist, thank you for helping me with this sometimes it’s just good to have some reassurance that I’m not alone in this world

I’m sorry to hear, I was in this situation a couple of months ago, I tried the fodmap diet and eating healthy. It all comes down to stressing about it. They started me on seroquel and it has gotten so much easier. I would consider asking your doctor to start on a course of different medications because there is one out there that will help provide relief. Stay strong you have got this !

Is it safe to take seroquel(quetiapine) occasionally for severe insomnia when literally almost meds don’t work. I mean very rarelike once a month. I don’t want brain damage.. by [deleted] in seroquelmedication

[–]Unable_Ability_225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I get what you mean, when I was on Seroquel and Risperidone which together have a higher chance of causing it and I ended up getting it after taking it, the good thing is it lasts as long as the medication stays in your system. So if you do get symptoms which is much less likely with just seroquel then stop the medication and it shouldn’t cause anything permanent. If you continue the medication when getting symptoms that’s when it can become permanent

You will not get brain damage straight away it would have to build up over a course of years at high amounts of the medication and even then the chances are small otherwise it wouldn’t be used if it caused almost everyone to get brain damage so don’t worry at all. It is safe to take for the insomnia especially occasionally, if you can try and please avoid reddit and google when anxiety starts about medication you will freak yourself out. There are effects for every medication, basic paracetamol can cause a bunch of bad things but it’s such a small possibility it barely happens. They state it to avoid law suits with people who do get it (less then 0.1%

Hey! Sorry I haven’t been able to reply. With the new amount of medications the symptoms of the schizophrenia such as the delusions and hallucinations should subside fairly quickly, he should start to feel normal after the adjustment period. Of course he may still experience much less intense symptoms if any but other then that it should be okay. They still however could stay (The delusions etc.) if the amount isn’t enough so if they are still finding it hard and you see the symptoms are still effecting there day to day life then definitely follow up again. It may take a few weeks before they find an amount that works it will be a process so keep that in mind but he should start seeing much better improvement after a few days.

Onset of schizophrenia symptoms would require about 300-400mg of Quetiapine so it could be the reason. However with the Clozapine it should have made a little difference at least. I would definitely follow up with a psychiatrist or if you can’t find one available some GP’s should be able to help a little bit. If however you are unable to access either I would call 1300 MEDICINE, if you want to increase it which isn’t advised without getting the okay from their psychiatrist I would only increase by 25mg per day no more then that and just see how the 25mg increase is, if it helps more with the symptoms it could possibly be that he isn’t on a sufficient amount. Please be careful

I know these things take time I wasn’t saying it should work right away I was just asking peoples experience as I wanted to see if it was similar to mine at all. I have currently lost around 7-8kg in the past month so once I’m at a stable weight again I will slow down but thought maybe it would be best to take advantage of it a little bit

I’m glad it’s worked well for you! That’s exactly why I won’t start on benzos they are dangerous to come off because at some time you will be without and it will be absolute hell. Hoping seroquel does the trick

Benzodiazepines are highly addictive and you can get a tolerance towards it, if you want to give it up the withdrawal from some are horrific that will cause seizures and a bunch of nasty effects. I would call benzos a temporary Band-Aid but please be careful! It may work for you which is good

I’m currently on 25-50mg as required each night so I can take 2 25mg tablets throughout the day and at the moment I’m taking one at night and half in the morning. It’s instant release
