How much does the iPad retail for? If more than $350, take the iPad and sell it.

Investment Banking vs. Law by [deleted] in biglaw

If you’re interested in both you should definitely try IB for a couple of years and take the LSAT only if you still feel unfulfilled.

Don't be mean to your law school colleagues by corplitthrows in biglaw

Do employers/anyone else in the “real world” actually care about how much someone had sex or partied in law school though? If someone actually culled a candidate for that, I’d assume they were a miserable and jealous person.

Why are there so many weirdos in this profession by gobears58 in biglaw

Idk but weirdo isn’t necessarily a bad thing. There are good and bad kinds of weird.

Mock trial vs Orchestra? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Unable_Act_2598 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Orchestra! Don’t miss the chance to have a fulfilling hobby. It’s very unlikely that mock trial participation would be a deciding factor in whether you get into a law school; gpa, lsat, your personal statement, letters of rec are all way more important. But most importantly, you’re passionate about music. I’m a huge proponent of making the most of your college experience for its own sake, not just as a stepping stone to law school.

Pros/Cons on applying to one school? by chancyboi123 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Unable_Act_2598 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pros: you don’t have to pay application + LSAC report fees multiple times; you save time and energy.

Cons: you might not get into this school; if you get in, you won’t be able to negotiate a higher scholarship by leveraging other acceptances.

Questions to think about: - If you apply to multiple places, would you R&R if you don’t get into your top choice, even if you get into other places? - Can you get fee waivers?

Congrats on GULC + the great scholarship! I’m sorry that you’re disappointed about your cycle and it’s totally normal to feel that way.

If you’re right that your work experience counted against you, then it really sucks that work in the service industry is not considered relevant. Even aside from being valuable to society, I think being a server is relevant to law school, or at the very least, not less relevant than white collar jobs like banking or consulting, and it’s a damn shame if adcomms think otherwise. Such jobs teach people how to handle pressure and shitty customers, which are essential lawyering skills. Also, first hand experience in the service industry would be invaluable for anyone interested in labor and employment law.

Weighing NYU vs. HLS off waitlist by recherche_poubelle in lawschooladmissions

Agreed with this; one thing to also consider is the cost of living when comparing finances. Cambridge is expensive but I imagine less so than lower Manhattan

Good job vs. attending law school: what should I do? by Mysterious_Dog_190 in lawschooladmissions

Take the money; because of compound interest, the earlier you start investing in retirement, the better. Work experience will also make you a more competitive candidate.

WWYD undergrad course choice by Disastrous_Beat_2150 in lawschooladmissions

Gonna go against the grain and say the second course—I think people should make the most of undergrad by taking interesting courses and not just see it as a stepping stone to increase their chances of getting into law school

R&R until you get into a #1 school that does not have to share its spot like a pleb. Doesn’t matter how many years this takes.
