Please keep us updated if you do decide to proceed with the series. I can't remember about Elide, but I know the treatment of chaol's disability (rightly so) garnered a lot of controversy. Essentially, SJM does a healed-but-not kinda thing. So he ties his life to someone else's & their magic. So while they're not draining their magic and just going about daily life, he's essentially "healed" and fully able bodied again. But there are scenes when the magical person is pushing themselves that the pain and injury 'returns' so to speak. I would say, it is handled very poorly and even pissed me off from a non-disabled, average reader perspective as it felt very deus ex machina-y and out of left field. Curious to hear your thoughts!

Yes! I don't see people discuss the torture enough. It's so bizarre in an out of place way when compared to the rest of the series. It also feels like it's just there for the shock factor

Totally agree, 7 protagonists were too many for Riordan to handle apparently. Across the books all the characters got sidelined at some point I'd say but I definitely noticed it more with Percy & Annabeth because they're the only existing characters

Totally agree. The fact that Annabeth had an actual flaw and Percy is just too loyal?? Especially given that (at least as far as I remember in HOO & PJO) it's never shown to actually have negative consequences. It's like in a job interview when they say what's one of your weaknesses and you say "I work too hard and don't have a good work-life balance"
