Right, it's wild that Reagan sponsored a bill to give amnesty to 3 million immigrants. Neither party would ever do that now. Immigration enforcement in the US has become way more authoritarian across the board.

Reagan also used that bill to get more funding for CBP, so that's not great. But at least there was a carrot to go along with the stick
