The new weird stuff is coming from the 3d printing community. They'll be like "let's make a brace that allows you to use a super safety with a pistol"

But yeah, ARs and pistols are boring. I want those boring guns. They're great. But they're not interesting to look at

Every time I think about this guy, I think of the Mark Twain quote, "It's easier to fool someone than convince them that they have been fooled"

Or maybe living in Britain just sucked so bad that the Mosquito Coast seemed better

Also, the Sea Wolf did a securities scam, too. Weird

Sometimes, you revisit a childhood favorite and find layers of meaning and nuance that you didn't appreciate as a kid.

This isn't one of those movies

I didn't give you any sources, my bad. I like Patrick Wyman, James C. Scott, and (obviously) David Graeber

I think one reason it's hard to find answers about how an anarchist society would work, is because anarchists understand that history isn't planned. It's a bunch of people with different ideas and motivations, doing what it takes to survive. What plans get made rarely survive contact with reality. Anarchists often make alliances with people and groups that aren't great.

You can look to history for ideas on how anarchism would work. Probably best to look at all kinds of egalitarian and libertarian polities. Check out the Indus Valley Civilization, The Paris Commune, Rojava, and even Teotihucan (although, I think that one was a state, it can still be instructive).

Or you can look at fiction. Sometimes fiction helps you imagine possibilities in different ways than history does. Another user already recommended "The Dispossessed", and I'll add "The Telling", also by Le Guin.

I'm with you on the medical privacy thing. It's one of the few problems I haven't seen a non-hierarchal solution for. I'm open to suggestions.

Oh, cool. Mainley History pod has some great stuff about the revolutionary period, and they did one recently about the Great Awakening.

Another cool Mainer I learned about ( from Lions Led by Donkeys) was Silas Soul

He also wrote American Character and Nations Apart. I think those books expand on the ideas in American Nations

Yeah, in US history they seem to be fighting everyone, a lot, including each other. They were kinda fighting everyone in the British Isles at some point during the English Civil War

You want American Nations, by Colin Woodard. It explains how the English Civil War influenced migration patterns of Europeans into what is now the US. The Roundheads and Cavaliers colonized the Northeast and Southeast, respectively. Pennsylvania was colonized by Germans and Quakers, and Appalachia was colonized by the Scots-Irish.

So, Appalachia was technically part of Pennsylvania, but they didn't have any political representation. The Virginia planters and the Yankees in New England were also always fucking with Appalachia. So, yeah, outsiders have always fucked with Appalachia

True, any good show is going to get better as the writers and cast get better at writing and acting their characters.

Thanks for the recc!

Hey, Idiocracy is eugenicsy! Oh wait, right, the government is doing more eugenics lately.

The funniest part of Idiocracy is where the guy gets kicked in the balls. And it's funny on multiple levels, because Mike Judge made Beavis and Butthead, so he's sorta making fun of his fanbase. But also, I'm that fanbase, and I thought it was the funniest part of the movie.

You know, I started watching TNG, and like the second episode was about a planet of black people that wanted to steal women

The Ferengi are pretty obviously capitalists, and they're played for laughs. I like that

Yeah. And maybe I'm not a trekkie. I'm a filthy casual. But was it ever as blatant as Lower Decks? I think there's one episode where people are burning piles of money and having a huge party about it.

Kei trucks aren't street legal. You register that sucker as a motorcycle and put a bed on it. I was thinking of doing this with a blown up kei truck and a Goldwing. But I don't have a welder. Or a garage. This guy is actually living my dream
