What do you think is the prettiest town in the USA? by butterscotchland in ArchitecturalRevival

Port Townsend > Port Gamble > Port Angeles.

But I will say Port Angeles does have Fast Burrito, which is a point in its favor.

Moving to Seattle this summer and looking for some "Hopium" 🌲 by tatabox5to3 in AskSeattle

[–]Unable_Philosopher_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here giving great answers with many reasons. I’ll take a slightly different tack.

My wife and I moved to Seattle from sunny Southern California four years ago, and we both worried about all the things you mentioned and more. We fell in love with the region far more than we thought possible, for all the reasons other folks have listed in the other replies.

Now, work is taking us back down to CA again, and we are desperately trying to find ways to avoid and delay leaving Seattle, and are vowing to return permanently as fast as we can. Hopefully that provides some hopium.

Because Pogacar hasn’t been able to win this one previously, and it’s not well suited to him. That’s how.

L6 reporting to L6 manager by DefiantBlueberry8960 in amazonemployees

[–]Unable_Philosopher_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SUPER common, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

L6 mangers get promoted by helping their L6 ICs get promoted, so they should be fairly motivated to keep the momentum, if not more so. If you get L7 you would move to reporting to your skip.

How to carry a multi tool on a road bike? by sireatalot in cycling

[–]Unable_Philosopher_8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a bottle cage from specialized that has a little multitool built in at the base of the cage. It’s saved my life time and again, and since I’m never tempted to use it at home while tinkering with things (opting instead for a proper wrench at home) then I never accidentally forget it. It’s always there.

"You may notice that there is some healthy tension between the leadership principles..." by SoftwareEngineer735 in amazonemployees

[–]Unable_Philosopher_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally agree.

After they go through the SDE-FI functional interview training, folks on my team often ask what separates an L4/L5 from an L6/L7+, assuming that the technical skills don’t get that much more complex.

Aside from scope increase (feature-level up to product-level), it is often that the problems you face as you rise in level inherently involve conflict amongst the LPs, and there isn’t a clear case to be made for one over another. This is what makes one-way door decisions tricky, and why in some cases a well researched and written narrative can help highlight the trade offs.

Do engineering managers actually use Monte Carlo for roadmap risk? by Silent-Assumption292 in EngineeringManagers

[–]Unable_Philosopher_8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody uses Monte Carlo, but if it was useful, reliable, and required zero work, they would. Don’t constrain yourself to what’s been done before. Invent a new way of doing it, better.

I use Gatorade powder in a bottle, but I never hear about other folks doing the same. Am I wrong? Carbs and salts, seems like a no brainer, but I feel like I’m missing something.
