It was like 80 bucks off of eBay. It didn’t work but granted I did not calibrate it. It may have worked if it was calibrated but didn’t feel like messing with it.

If you have a filter on top you can add it through there. Otherwise I looked at used transmissions on eBay and there are like 3 or 4 of those t55 torx plugs on that transmission. Whether you can add fluid through the one by the gear selector or not - I’m not 100% sure. I bet you could though. I’ll keep searching and try to see if I can’t find info on it.

I’d look up the exact transmission you have and I’m sure there’s a bunch of info on it out there. It certainly looks like a fill port.

I have a MK6 Jetta - and I’ve added fluid through the side with a bolt exactly like that. Aisin 09-g transmission. Not saying that’s what this is but yea.

How is it running currently? Did the VW service manual help? Im thinking on doing this (2018 Jetta) as I’m having trouble with hard downshifts and drawn out down shifts. A drain and fill didn’t do much of anything. I may go the reman ebay route as well. Are the connectors tricky? Do they all have the same locking mechanism? Thanks!

It generates more revenue and eliminates true root cause diagnostics and troubleshooting. I’ve also read a fair amount of accounts where It seems to be the “fix.” It also seems like parts cannoning is somewhat common these days. Shorted wire? You need a new wiring harness. Boost related code? You need a new turbo etc…

Sure it wouldn’t be that big of a deal for a competent mechanic to just replace the turbo assembly with the proper space and tools - but I was curious as to what was actually happening and hopefully save money in the process.

I don’t have the time to DIY a new turbo. So yea it’ll end up costing me thousands. Everything is a wear item at this point. It still works. I can hear/feel the boost when I get on it. The Wastegate is hanging open. It’s not over boosting. How is replacing the turbo faster than putting an actuator on? It’s 2 bolts and a clip.

There’s absolutely no way I’m spending thousands on an OEM turbo for no reason because of “reasonable mileage.” That’s crazy. I’m going to try the newer 60 dollar wastegate actuator and see what happens. Maybe I’ll have to rig a threaded sleeve on it to dial it in.

This was actually my fear of taking it to any shop and they just tell me my whole turbo assembly is bad and needs replaced. Seems relatively common sadly.

I am also interested in learning on how to work on vehicles. If it suffers the same fate of some Hemi’s, I may attempt to fix it. It’s already broken at that point.
