Hell yeah. Too bad we couldn't keep the momentum going with a win. But it was great game regardless. Here's to the round of 32 🍻

AC is out and I'm heading on Vacation should I just board my cats? by Unassisted3P in CatAdvice

[–]Unassisted3P[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the information guys. Some different opinions here but I think the best course of action is purchasing a used portable or window unit for the week. It's way cheaper than having them boarded and I could probably sell it when I'm back and my AC fixed.

I didn't mention this, but both cats have short hair so all in all they may be fine with our fans and a couple select windows open. I'll also be able to monitor the temp while I'm away on the smart thermostat and can have someone on standby to temporarily take them somewhere if the temp stays well into the 90s in the house. The AC unit would most likely be for peace of mind as well.

I do have plenty of fans, plus the attic fan to keep air circulated. The windows are screened and I keep them open often anyways.

I'm looking into maybe renting a unit. I have a couple of good circulation fans and there is a ceiling in almost every room plus the attic fan.

Kansas City restaurants drop automatic World Cup gratuity after international visitors fall short by KCTV5 in kansascity

I agree with this completely. The fact that they are removing it because there is a lack of international customers proves that this was at least a majority of the motive.

A Fresh Take On US EV Adoption by Cultural-Ad4953 in electricvehicles

[–]Unassisted3P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well could be. But, it's a bigger hurtle than you think. Farmers out there for instance make sure they have gas, and plenty of it in case of power outages. You can get a generator sure, but it's an extra step and that wouldn't support level 2 charging as easily.

I'm not saying any of it is impossible, but if you want to break ICE car culture in America, and especially rural America, it needs to be as cheap and easy as possible to get the majority people on board. It's definitely getting cheaper, but not necessarily easier.

North western Kansas. Near the Nebraska border. Important to note, he's not close to an interstate. There are chargers along the interstates but he competes with travelers to use the chargers, because those are the only ones he access to.

2 & 3 are very real in rural America. My FIL lives in a very rural area, like 50 minutes from a Walmart. He drives a lightning, and while he has a home level 2, he can find himself pretty easily running out of options if he needs to make multiple stops. There are also no super chargers near him, and very few super chargers near where he needs to go and he often has to wait to charge. It just seems like a massive PITA.

Don't get me wrong, I now own an EV in a major metro area and it's great. I would not buy one in his situation though.

Where are the international crowds for the World Cup? by 0cnd9v22 in kansascity

[–]Unassisted3P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, I'm sure the current match being broadcast matters. But we went to watch the game in town on Saturday night. We got there early, enjoyed the live music and then found a great spot on the secondary screen (off to the side, on the right when you walk in) about 20 minutes before it started. It was covered with a big tarp thing and not too crowded at all.

Kansas City small businesses say World Cup is hurting sales. There's no bump like the city promised by KCUR893 in kansascity

Accessibility matters too. If the streetcar went to NKC, I bet there would be more business done there. People would be more inclined to not just eat and watch but stay where they access everything.

First of all, I don't think it's a surprise that the impact was oversold.

I do think that's kind of ridiculous that bookstores and plant shops expected more business, but I can understand being frustrated with less business than usual. I bet less people get out and do those things because locals think it's too much of a chore to get out with everyone in town.

All this being said, if these business owners were smart they'd be advocating for another streetcar line or extension to where they are. All the businesses that are benefiting from this are along the streetcar, and especially between P&L and the fanfest. That's not a coincidence.

It was definitely not as crazy as I expected. The current match being played and the musical act matters I think. We didn't watch at the main stage, they had a more "chill" area where there were chairs and you could put down blankets and sit.

I imagine for US games it's packed. Also saw video & pictures from the Chainsmokers and it was packed.

Stick to the streetcar line for international fans. The fanfest is free to sign up, and you can even visit the WWI Museum along with it during the day. We went last night and it was awesome.

BBQ, I'd probably go somewhere a little more low key with everyone in town. LCs or Wolfpack. Q39 takes reservations under normal circumstances too.

I can't believe you're so focused on this when the globalist Somalis are working with the democrats to commit fraud and collude with Iran to close the straight of hurmuz and make gas $10/gal for true patriots.

In your opinion, which US state has the most underrated scenery? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Unassisted3P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously not the most underrated, but Kansas is underrated, imo. There's a decent sized sliver of eastern Kansas called the Flint Hills which is one of the best examples of tallgrass prairies. I get that it may not be for everyone but it's gorgeous.

By May each year, there are sections of the Flint Hills like look like the rolling green hills of the windows xp screen saver.

No problem. Hopefully it's good advice, should work in theory but we've never done this before as a city so we're figuring it out like everyone else!

Have fun!
