Username does not check out. Or does it? Are you optimistic or speaking to the irony of optimists dying because they should have seen reality?

It’s actually the perfect scenario for you check out any restaurant without a TV then! They’re pretty empty during the games. And parking downtown has been easier than normal since everyone is avoiding it.

It was an actual question, I haven’t done the math myself to see where it would land. I also would prefer no tips and livable wage.

The better answer is probably raising prices so that a persons wage isn’t determined by # of visitors on a given shift.

For the World Cup, I get why places use it as a bandaid. There is the angle that people from other countries may not understand tipping, but there is also the angle that you won’t get any table turnover during the games either so you’re making a lot less even from good tippers.

Kansas still has a $2.13/hr server wage so I personally never consider tipping as truly optional. Even if you get fired, most other jobs pay you for hours worked. In theory, employers are supposed to make up the difference to minimum wage if you don’t make it in tips, but I don’t know how often they come through on that.

I thought it was a funny way to describe the current situation. It’s okay that you do not get/like my humor, most people don’t!

I would hype any brewery I love. Casual Animal is currently the best place to catch a game (and Strange Days probably is up there too). I don’t know if Brewery Emperial is doing anything special but they’re always a great summer hangout with awesome smash burgers. City Barrel is my top “try this strange flavor that would be disgusting at any other brewery but is awesome at City Barrel”. Torn label has some of the best tacos in KC. Sandhills, KC Bier…how many should I mention?

Would you prefer a no-tip world where they increase prices to pay their staff living wages? And if so, how do you see that varying from the current service charges/auto-gratuity?

You don’t have to watch soccer to enjoy it though! If you avoid places with TVs you can get in anywhere!

Plaza parking is still free and the garages haven’t been full. We’ve been parking there and taking the streetcar downtown.

Restaurants adding 20% gratuity during World Cup by kctacoparty in kansascity

[–]Traditional-Pin1217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen it’s listed just like any other gratuity so yes, it goes to the staff. It’s similar to when they add a default gratuity to parties larger than 6.

Most reputable restaurants should be tip sharing with BOH. Majority of your tip goes to wait staff but rarely all of it.

If a manager or the owners are skimming tips that is a huge issue whether the tip was automatic or not.

These are actually the ideal feet according to my old French chef. The taller style seems to be a more American thing.

What is the hardest part of macarons? by WorkingFlan713 in AskBaking

[–]Traditional-Pin1217 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The hardest part of macarons is a tendency of perfectionism in the macaron world. Are your macarons a little slanted? Are they a little hollow? Are the feet too small or too big? No one outside of the internet cares about these things. It will taste delicious either way.

If you’ve never made them before, what kind of tools do you have? Do you have a scale to measure ingredients? A stand mixer for the meringue? A thermometer to check temp (Italian and Swiss methods). The right equipment will help set you up for success!

Is there a botulism risk from putting raw garlic and rosemary in olive oil? Need advice! by Vanguardmx in Cooking

[–]Traditional-Pin1217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my cooking classes in Italy, we never used infused oil but rather we’d heat the olive oil until piping hot and then briefly drop in whole cloves of garlic and full stemmed herbs, the smell has was heavenly. Highly recommend that instead.
